The Interpreter/Care Coordinator provides a number of services to promote full accessibility to BMS medical services for specified populations of non-English speaking patients and their families. These include, but are not limited to, interpreting, health care coordination, and information/ referral. Interpreters function as cultural competency resources for both staff and patients. They also assist with outreach activities in the applicable Language Community. Communication skills are required to persuade or gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas. Responsibility exists to ensure that internal customers are satisfied with service. Communication with external contacts involves handling complaints, making adjustments, corrections, etc.

Schedule/Hours:

Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Essential functions:

• Interprets for BMS providers and non-English speaking patients/family members of specified language groups, as well as for other BMS contracted providers and staff. Provides accurate interpretation and communication of information
• Assists with medical referrals for LEP patients and follows through. Instructs the patient in required preparation for procedures and tests. Relates to various providers and hospitals as needed to coordinate patient care.
• Contacts non-English speaking patients and accurately transmits messages from provider/nurse via appropriate means—Communicates concerns from the patient to the provider/nurse.
• Upholds the interpreter's code of ethics during the interpreting encounter. Completes all bi-lingual tasks requested by the supervisor in a timely and satisfactory manner.

• High School Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
• 12+ months of professional interpreting experience
• Ability to speak, read, and write in BOTH English and Spanish
