Birth Certificate Registrar Technician - Post Partum Job at The Christ Hospital Health Network

Prepares birth certificate, statistics and distributes information.
- Maintains log of all newborn names, sex, and mother’s name according to date of birth.
- Enters newborn birth certificate information into IPHIS and obtain state file numbers.
- Prepares and types birth certificate for each live birth using several sources – birth worksheets, medical records of mother and baby, and precinct directories.
- Accurately prepares and types stillbirth/death certificates when appropriate and provides hardcopy to Pathology.
- Verifies certificate for accuracy, mails certificate to the Bureau of Vital Statistics usually within 10 days of birth.
- Corrects items on birth certificate identified by the Bureau of Vital Statistics or by mother as being incorrect by retyping and submitting a new birth certificate.
- Provides mother with instructions for obtaining certificate copy and enumeration at birth (newborn social security number).
- Maintains Paternity Affidavit log
- Mails letters to single mothers who have been discharged without father signing birth certificates. Mail letters to mothers who have been discharged without an interview.
- Enters and transmits newborn birth defects to the Ohio Department of Health.
- Completes screening report for CCHD pulse oximetry screenings and hearing screens.
- Compiles obstetrical/newborn statistical data for monthly and yearly statistics.
- Documents productivity statistics for each function performed and performs duties according to departmental productivity standards.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in Obstetrics preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained. Knowledge of medical terminology. Position requires ability to interact with various individuals including physicians. Understanding the state requirements for completion of birth/stillbirth/death certificates. Good communication skills, attention to detail, ability to abstract and enter data, knowledge of PC and printer operations, telephone etiquette, use of copy machine and fax machine.
