Specialist – Educational Technology Unit - Information Technology Services (Central) Job at Suffolk County Community College
Announcement is hereby made for a 12-month, full-time, Specialist-Educational Technology Unit position in the Office of Information Technology Services (Central) on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.
This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.
Job Description:
The Educational Technology Unit Specialist provides technical support for lab equipment and networks in campus computing facilities. The incumbent reports to the Vice President for Information Technology. Specific duties include the following:
- Maintains local and wide area networks, including expertise in Ethernet protocols, Microsoft Windows Server and desktop operating systems, Active Directory, current Mac OS, virtualization, and network management and administration.
- Installs and maintains desktop computers, laptops, projectors, printers, and other instructional technology in multiple instructional lab/classroom settings.
- Loads and maintains software as is dictated by curricular need.
- Ensures that virus protection, operating system patches, and other widely used software packages are installed and kept up to date.
- Responds to classroom and event emergencies; troubleshoots various technologies.
- Works independently to integrate technology into the teaching objectives of multiple disciplines as requested by faculty and administrators.
- Assists with budget requests for educational technology unit labs and recommends the purchase of computer hardware, software, and related supplies.
- Works in a team environment regarding larger installations and projects.
- Keeps track of inventory of various technologies, recording new and replaced equipment in the college system.
- Maintains servers, accounts, and groups in conjunction with other instructional technology professionals.
- Supports enterprise-level systems (asset management, desktop protection, virus protection, remote services, etc.) for the educational environments.
- Secures systems from hacking or any other unauthorized use as put forth by college policy and local, state, or federal law.
- Provides support for campus and college-wide events when needed.
- Researches and tests innovative technologies for wide scale implementation.
- Performs all other duties requested by the Vice President for Information Technology and/or the Campus Coordinator for Instructional Technology Support.
Qualifications:
Required
Master's Degree in technology-related field (Computer Science, Information Technology, MBA with a technology concentration, or similar). Must exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills. Must exhibit outstanding customer service skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with team members, trainers, and management.
Preferred
- Experience supporting technology in a higher ed environment
- Experience managing a domain in a Microsoft Windows Server environment
- Experience supporting audio/visual technology
- Experience supporting PC, Mac, and virtualized platforms
The exact salary will be determined by prior teaching experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
