General Summary :
Process Support Scientist I (PSS I) is a high-level analytical position that requires extensive knowledge of real-world polymer processing combined with detailed lab analysis. A PSS I should hold a PhD and most preferably have industry experience in the analysis of polymers and how they react to manufacturing processes. It is understood that polymers specifically used by Zeus may not be an immediate area of expertise and will be learned through interface on various projects, quality investigations, and working with engineers on process improvements requiring a broad toolset of lab and analytical techniques. PSS I will begin to interface with vendors and customers on how to handle those situations appropriately while gaining a great deal of expertise with at least one of Zeus' core businesses.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technical support of complex projects and problem-solving efforts
- Extensive data analysis and presentation of findings and recommendations
- Create presentations for interface with vendors and customers
- Working to obtain expertise in a primary field of focus within Zeus (examples may include PTFE extrusion, melt extrusion, Heat Shrink processing, Polyimide tube manufacture)
- Conduct IP related activities, analysis of patent literature, provide scientific data and consultation on patent claim drafting / technical guidance on freedom to practice searches as required
- Support manufacturing and quality organizations, often engaging on cross-functional teams
- Engage in safety activities as needed
- Provide input in team meetings on directions of project and recommendations
- PhD in Polymer Science, Chemistry, or related technical field
- Experience with polymer testing, lab techniques, and methods
- Demonstrated lab, data analysis, and analytical skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Ability to learn and understand details of manufacturing processes
- Ability to establish cause and effect analysis utilizing manufacturing generated data
- Able to make technical decisions based on data and logic
- Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing Training considered a plus
- Exceptional Computer Skills (data analysis, excel, reporting, presentation generation)
- Self-starter with a desire to always learn
- Discernment to proactively seek assistance and escalate professionally when needed
- Demonstrates exemplary work ethic, data integrity, ethical practices, and putting the customer at the forefront of all decisions.
- Ability to analyze and communicate compliance to test or method standards
- Polymer blends and compounding a plus
- Polymer rheology experience a plus
