Pre-Op/PACU Overnight Stay RN Job at Copper Ridge Surgery Center
Position Title: Pre-Op/PACU Overnight Stay RN Department: Pre-Op/PACU
Supervisor: Pre-Op/PACU Team Leader Supervises: None
Compensation: $30 / hour + $3.00 / hour shift differential for Overnight shifts.
Schedule: Varies, flexibility for Overnight shifts Monday - Thursday is essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides safe, therapeutic and quality driven care to patients utilizing the nursing process and diagnosis in a timely manner, setting appropriate priorities and acting as patient advocate.
- Communicates appropriate patient care information to all pre-operative or post-anesthetic team members, anesthesia providers, and intra-procedural staff including pertinent patient history, treatments/procedures performed, medications administered and patient responses, as needed.
- Carries out physician orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities within the patient’s record.
- Completes patient clinical documentation accurately, concisely, completely and in a timely manner.
- Completes admitting or discharge procedures safely, providing clear and understandable pre/post-operative instructions and assistance.
- Communicates and interacts with patients, families and peers in a positive and supportive manner.
- 12 hr shifts (6pm-6am)
- Must have flexible schedule Monday thru Thursday. No weekends or Holidays
- Maintains effective, respectful, and professional communication between staff, anesthesia providers, physicians and additional healthcare providers.
- Participates in improving Center’s clinical performance and patient satisfaction scores.
- Is accountable for personal and professional growth by maintaining required professional licenses and certificates, participating in continuing education programs, communication groups, and staff meetings.
- Complies with cost containment practices by properly utilizing resources, caring for equipment, and working efficiently as a team.
- Participates in quality assurance monitoring including infection prevention practices, proper medication administration and safe injection practices.
- Act as a preceptor and mentor to new or cross-trained staff members.
- Adheres and assists in the development of policies and procedures, clinical competencies, and staff development.
- Observes and complies with all safety precautions and participates in processes meeting or exceeding regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
- Participates in mandatory safety training, drills, risk management and other educational opportunities.
- Adheres to all Center policies regarding confidentiality of patient information including HIPAA guidelines, patient care and quality standards.
- Monitors, reports, and documents symptoms or changes in patient’s conditions.
- Demonstrates ability and initiative to function as charge nurse in absence of Team Leader, when necessary.
- Safely administers medications to patients and monitoring for possible side effects or reactions.
- Directs and delegates clinical care assistants in performing safe patient care within their scope of practice.
- Works effectively as a team, assisting and supporting co-workers when needed. Supports a culture of safety that encourages everyone to speak up to prevent errors.
SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent customer service skills; professional friendly attitude.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
- Detail oriented, ability to multi-task, and has strong organizational skills
- Must be tactful, discreet, and maintain confidentiality at all times

- Knowledge of appropriate OSHA safety and Universal Precaution guidelines.
- Effective interpersonal skills including those required during stressful situations.
- Team oriented
- Proficient in IV start skills, obtaining complete nursing assessments and health histories.
- Knowledgeable of common medications and their relationship to anesthetics and the surgical process.
- Demonstrated effective problem solving and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills; including use for trainings, electronic health records, email, etc.
- Nursing assessment skills utilizing basic nursing theory.
- Critical thinking skills
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current MI licensure
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification required within one (1) year of employment.
- PALS certification required within one (1) year of employment.
- One or more years demonstrated pre-operative or post-anesthetic experiences and skills with knowledge of accepted ASPAN and State Dept. of Health standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly required to use hands to control or feel objects, grasp, move or assemble objects.
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, squat or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to talk or hear; read, write, understand and carry out directions
- Will serve in patient care including patient movement or lifting. Standing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and ability to frequently lift up to 20lbs, and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
- Full Covid 19 vaccination, per CDC guidelines, is required.
Based on OSHA guidelines for exposure determination, this position falls within Category A – occupations that require procedures or other occupation related tasks that involve exposure or reasonably expected exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
