Patient Admitting Representative Job at Evansville Surgery Center
Evansville Surgery Center is currently accepting application for a full-time Patient Admitter to work at our Midtown location. Position is Monday-Friday, day shift, benefits start on day one of employment.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the admitting activities of the Evansville Surgery Center. These activities include admitting patients, setting up charts, insurance verification, collection of payments and other assigned activities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Admit patients using the Amkai or EPIC systems.
- Assist with verification of insurance and enter information into the appropriate software system.
- Prepare charts for patients and include charts if the patient had a previous visit.
- Collect co-payments and/or deductibles when appropriate. Check the EPIC system for prepayment on elective accounts.
- Prepare various reports (i.e. daily case count, etc.).
- Back up on answering phones, check voice mail upon opening in morning.
- Reconcile collections for ESC and Deaconess Hospital. Sign-off and send payment ledger to corporate office daily
- Send charts to pre-op, send x-ray’s etc. to pre-op as required (generally 3 days in advance).
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for entering admission information and verifying existing information from patient during admission process. Ensure all information is accurate and copies of insurance documents are in chart or scanned into EPIC. Have patient/responsible party sign the appropriate documents. Complete admission process on timely basis and notify pre-op nurse that patient has completed admission process. Collect any co-payments or deductibles from patient that are payable at time of admission. Record collections on collection ledger in accordance with established policy/procedure of the Evansville Surgery Center.
- Prior to admission set up patient chart with the appropriate blank forms. Print patient labels and attach to the chart with extra labels in chart. Enclose any other appropriate documentation and the insurance verification on the registration form.
- Provide assistance in answer phones when not admitting patients. If the first admitter in the morning, checks the voice mail and distribute any messages as appropriate.
- Prepares various daily and other reports and distributes on a timely basis.
- Provide coverage for other positions when there are vacations or medical leave
- Complete all Healthstream Learning by the due date.
- Attending Deaconess Hospital coverage training and complete and pass annual testing.
- Follow and comply with ESC’s Standards of Behavior.
- As determined by management, position may be asked to perform duties to assist in the overall functioning of the facilities business office or the operations of the Evansville Surgery Center.

Speaking/Hearing: Communicates with physician and center’s personnel and patients. Above average hearing and able to understand medical terminology.
Seeing/Reading: Will read a variety of reports, documents, policies and procedures, and healthcare and professional publications. Will need good hand and eye coordination to key information into computer via a computer keyboard.
Mobility: Must have ability to be up and down on feet mostly carpeted or tiled surfaces and up and down ramps and stairs.
Documenting/Writing: Must routinely produce reports and correspondence in a professional manner primarily utilizing a computer workstation located at an average height of 28 inches.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must know some medical terminology, computer literate, and able to perform work accurately. Prefer two (2) years of experience in a hospital and/or ambulatory surgery setting or other medical facility.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position works in an environmentally controlled office setting, with average accommodations. Minor lifting is required (less than 25 pounds). Required to use equipment such as personal computers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, and typewriters.
