Columbia College Chicago a private urban institution of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students, four-year College offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business is currently searching for Part-Time Seasonal Stage Technicians.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Technical Director and Production Manager, the Stage Technician is responsible for providing a range of technical theatre support to Academic Program and Dance Presenting Series performances of the Dance Department, and the faculty, students and patrons of the Dance Center. This is a part-time, seasonal position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in the completion of the one or more of the following tasks as required in a safe and professional manner:

  • Basic to complex sound system setup and operation
  • Run audio playback for dance productions
  • Mix live sound for dance productions
  • Loading and unloading of trucks
  • Installation and operation of video and projection equipment
  • Attend technical, rehearsal and performance calls
  • Assist in basic lighting hang and focus
  • Ability to operate in a Genie Lift at heights up to 18’
  • Ability to push a Genie Lift
  • Ablility to climb ladders
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre audio or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Experience in stage lighting, audio and video playback, and general theater operations
  • Experience with set-up, operations and maintenance of theatrical lighting, sound, and audio-visual systems
  • Basic carpentry and rigging skills
  • Physically capable of occasional heavy lifting (over 100lbs) and frequent moderate lifting (up to 50lbs) and safely negotiating stairs, ladders, and Genie lifts
  • Working knowledge of Yamaha LS9 Digital audio console, and various projection equipment, and basic networking for theatrical equipment, computer playback equipment including QLab3 and QLab 4
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills required.
  • Must be available nights and weekends.
