The Sanitation Districts are currently recruiting to fill one Mechanical Engineer/Engineering Associate II, III in the Engineering Department within the Civil & Mechanical Design Group.

ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
CIVIL & MECHANICAL DESIGN SECTION
JOINT ADMINISTRATION OFFICE
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for design of projects supporting the operation of wastewater and solid waste management facilities, including coordinating with other sections and departments to define project scope and complete design work; developing project drawings, specifications, and contract documents; performing hydraulic studies and calculations; design of grading, paving, and other site improvements; selecting pipe alignment and materials and developing supporting calculations; performing mechanical equipment sizing and selection; preparing engineering reports, memos, project schedules, and construction cost estimates; coordinating and obtaining permits from agencies, utilities, and private property owners; coordinating with and reviewing work of engineering consultants; and providing contract support during construction including reviewing submittals and assisting field staff in resolving construction problems.

This position will be assigned to the Joint Administration Office in Whittier, CA. Initial salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess :
A valid California Class C driver license for positions performing on the job driving -AND- additional credentials as follows:

For ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE II, Option A: A bachelor's degree and master's degree both in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or university; Option B: A bachelor's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a related science with an Engineer-In-Training Certificate and a master's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a pertinent engineering discipline; Option C: Two years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university. For ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE III, Two years of experience as an Engineering Associate II -OR- Four years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university. For MECHANICAL ENGINEER, possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer with the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists -AND- Option A: Six years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university; Option B: A master's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- Three years of professional engineering experience; Option C: A PhD in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- two years of professional engineering experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience performing engineering design of mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), flares, pumps, blowers, pressure vessels, process piping, vibration isolation, and pipe stress analysis; general civil design experience; a Bachelor and/or Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering; possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering with the California Board of Professional Engineers.
