JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Preschool Lead Teacher / Teacher (Beginner 2-3yr old)

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Principal

LOCATION: Majors Road

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt WORK STATUS: Full-time

SUMMARY:

Create, manage and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. Participate collaboratively and professionally with other teachers and staff to promote the general well-being of the school, and collective/individual interest of its staff and student body.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATIONAL:

1. Fully implements assigned SEG early age curriculum (Links to Learning) in accordance with directives and guidelines for implementation demonstrates understanding of school’s educational programs (e.g. classroom environment, student work bulletin boards, parent communications boards, classroom management, parent reports, assessments, center management, etc.)

2. Provides weekly, age appropriate, lesson plans for review and ensures that assignments and necessary materials are prepared before the beginning of each activity; modifies lesson plans and schedules as required.

3. Utilizes SEG curriculum planning, including readiness, math readiness, circle time, themes, science/health, motor movement, art/cooking/music, computers and ensures educational equity.

4. Acknowledges and encourages diversity and varying viewpoints by providing images and experiences that reflects the local and global communities.

5. Uses circle time and centers according to lesson plans and varies the instructional materials used including contextual, supplemental, teaching bulletin boards, teacher-constructed, audio-visual, activity-based, hands-on, discovery, puzzles/games and tactile.

6. Assesses developmental needs of children and works to incorporate individual students’ learning, physical and emotional needs through providing a variety of materials and activities that encourage children to explore their environment and develop social skills, problem-solving skills and new ways of thinking.

7. Maintains accurate and timely educational assessments and progress portfolios for all students assigned.

8. Utilizes SEG supplemental materials as required by specific classroom, or program.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

1. Monitors students appropriately to ensure a safe and healthy environment, both indoors and outdoors, following all rules and procedures of the school and company as well as state licensing standards.

2. Maintains accurate attendance reports, including Face to Name procedure.

3. Ensures that hazardous objects are out of reach of children.

4. Maintains ratios at all times, keeps attendance records of children throughout the day.

5. Promptly reports any suspected child abuse to the Principal for appropriate research and notification.

6. Disinfects mats, toys and other classroom materials weekly or as required.

7. Carries out fire drills in accordance with licensing requirements in conjunction with Principal direction.

8. Serves food and monitors children observing food intake and needs of children.

9. Reports maintenance and equipment needs and safety hazards in a timely manner.

10. Adheres to school Injury and Illness Prevention Plan including: observation of children for illness, disease or unusual behavior, administering first aid or emergency measures, reporting any findings to the administrative team and the timely completion of corresponding paperwork.

11. Maintains accurate attendance reports, including Face to Name procedure.

12. Maintains updated student lists and adheres to any child food allergy requirements, and/or special dietary needs, in each classroom.

1. Communicates frequently and respectfully with children directly, in child-friendly tones and on their level, including getting down on the floor with children during certain activities, holding or picking up children when needed, being able to help children during naptime and supporting the children’s efforts.

2. Ensures rules and limits are established according to school positive discipline philosophy and standards; uses consistency in discipline.

3. Ensures that parents, other teachers and Principal are informed appropriately of children’s cognitive, behavioral, and social issues, as necessary.

4. Directs parental concerns/issues and information relative to children’s progress to Principal, as needed.

5. Obtains prior approval from Principal regarding written communication to parents.

6. Meets and greets perspective families and assists administration with classroom tour or other events.

PROFESSIONALISM:

1. Maintains a cooperative attitude in dealing with other staff and parents always presenting a high level of respect in tone and manner. Works to resolve conflicts quickly.

2. Follows all school and company policies and procedures, including but not limited to, dress code, assigned work schedule, reliability, dependability, and punctuality.

3. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to learn and adopt new ideas in early learning and development; works to continually learn and improve skills.

4. Maintains confidentiality regarding staff, children and families as well as SEG management and operations.

5. Avoids gossip and drama in the workplace.

6. Attends staff meetings, trainings and other school functions, as required and requested.

8. Implements recommendations from Parent Assurance Reviews (PAR) and Quality Assurance Reviews (QAR), as required by the Principal.

OTHER DUTIES:

1. Responsible for supervision of students other than those assigned to his/her classroom on an emergency basis.

2. Accountable for playground duty supervision (as assigned), ensuring that children remain in the playground, are playing safely on equipment and report back inside with their class when instructed to do so.

3. Plans class parties, attends field trips and plans/implements extended before and after school activities, if part of employment relationship.

4. Follows SEG policies regarding classroom purchases prior to it being made on behalf of the school.

5. Conserves classroom materials by using all materials effectively and efficiently; reports supply needs when stock is depleted.

6. Serves on staff committees, as requested.

7. Performs all other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIALS:

1. Two-year degree in Early Childhood Education or life experience equivalent. High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required. (Associates’ Degree required for Pre-K Teachers.)

2. Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

3. Meets minimum preparation and experience required for certification as an Early Childhood Education
Teacher. Complies with all state education and licensing standards, and maintains validation of credentials for the position (i.e. professional development).

4. Previous experience as an Early Childhood Education Teacher, in a licensed preschool or early development center.

5. Strong organizational skills.

6. Must be 18 years of age or older.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Preschool Teachers / Lead
Teachers may be required to work more than 40 hours a week, often including school activities at night and on weekends. Position is year round and schedule will fluctuate on a weekly basis.
