Southwestern Community Action Council is a private non-profit agency whose mission is to facilitate the social and economic well-being of low-income families in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, and Wayne counties in West Virginia. We are a leader in the development and provision of a variety of community programs and services provided by qualified, highly trained, client focused staff. Our programs include Early Head Start / Head Start, the Mason County Homeless Shelter, Weatherization Assistance, Case Management / Homemaker Services, Senior Community Services (Mature Worker), Utility Assistance, and Veteran Supportive Services.
We currently have an opening for a Home Visitor for our Early Head Start program in Harts, WV to join our team and achieve great things together.
Level Qualifications
Level I. Home-Based CDA/ACDS or equivalent credential.
Level II. Home-Based CDA/ACDS or equivalent coursework, plus experience in early childhood.
Level III. A.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education or certification/credential or related field. Plus, Home-Based CDA.
Basic Qualifications
Must meet Level 1 qualifications. Must have a desire to work with young children and pregnant women; a strong interest in improving self and community; self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision; writing skills; valid driver's license with safe driving record. Must successfully pass a criminal history record check and drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
Level II or Level III qualifications
Position Details (This is a sampling of duties and responsibilities of this position)
* Meet with supervisor to plan and coordinate home-based operations.
* Work collaboratively with the parent/guardian to become actively engaged in developing a plan for each child based on individual needs of the child and results of assessment.
* Work with parents to develop weekly home visit and weekly activity plans based on child's assessment and identified family needs.
* Promote family well-being, positive parenting, families as lifelong educators and learners, family engagement in transitions, connections to peers and community and families as advocates and leaders.
* Integrates all Early Head Start services areas during home visits with assistance from Service Area Coordinators/Specialists.
* Maintain supplies and equipment used in the home in a safe and clean manner.
* Encourage parents to engage and participate in parent meetings, trainings and school readiness activities.
* Make referrals for children and parents to appropriate staff.
* Participate in group activities/Socialization for children and parents at least once each month.
* Submit monthly and quarterly reports as required, documenting all home visits by the third of each month.
* Assist pregnant women to maintain healthy lifestyle and healthy environment to raise their child.
* Provide support to families to ensure proper development of child through example, training activities, etc.
* Attain an understanding of the connection between improving parent/family engagement and enhancing child development and school readiness.
* Perform all other duties as assigned.
