Health Services Coordinator RN Job at Family Enrichment Network, Inc.
The Health Services Coordinator is responsible for planning, supervising, and managing health/mental health activities delivered at sites, with emphasis on prevention, well-being, and sound nutrition. Serves Head Start, Early Head Start, and Specials Services children.
Minimum Qualifications:NYS Licensed RN with a BS in Nursing or health education/administration. Two years of demonstrated concurrent experience in a pediatric/community health setting. Experience in planning and implementing health education workshops. Computer literacy desired. Supervisory/Management experience preferred. Willing to become knowledgeable regarding Head Start philosophy and regulations and the community we serve. Job requires travel within area served by the program. Must have valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle. Professional Liability Insurance coverage is recommended.
Essential Duties:
- Supervises LPN and Health Service Clerk. Leads in the selection of health staff, and consultants. Provides staff training and development, including on-site consultation; coaching; and mentoring; and develops individual training plans that utilize Agency resources to build upon strengths and challenge interests.
- Assists families in assuming primary responsibility for their own health and links them with an ongoing system of health care; assists parents in the selection of health providers and in the appropriate use of health care resources; counsels them about child or family health problems; plans, develops, and coordinates health related parent workshops; and promotes parent involvement in all aspects of the health program.
- Promotes health and safety practices in the program and coordinates safety and sanitation procedures, daily classroom health rounds, first aid, administration and appropriate documentation of medication to children, and emergency medical procedures.
- Makes selected home health visits and transports children in case of illness/accidents.
- Coordinates health activities with staff in other content areas and in other community agencies.
- Communicates regularly with the Head Start/Early Head Start Director to keep him/her informed and involved in planning and delivering Head Start/Early Head Start’s health services.
- Presides at Health Advisory Committee meetings of the Head Start/ Early Head Start Policy Council to obtain guidance, provide leadership, and coordinate activities in the best interest of children/families. Creates an environment for discussion and resolution of Health issues. Facilitates the annual assessment of services.
- Negotiates with the Health Services Advisory Committee and local health care professionals and service providers to ensure that health services for families are available and accessible. Actively represents Head Start/Early Head Start’s health and nutrition services through community campaigns and committee membership.
- Participates in initial, mid-year, exit case, and individual conferences as needed.
- Provides health counseling and referral services to employees upon request.
- Assists in implementing and adheres to Head Start Performance Standards, specifically 1301-1305.
- Leads in the integration of health education into the total Head Start/Early Head Start program.
- Identifies and utilizes outside resources to enhance programming.
- Gathers, reads, and distributes health information and public policy issues. Oversees the maintenance of related reference manuals.
- Supervises staff in the maintenance and computerization of ongoing individual health records and nutrition information for enrolled children/families.
- Works with the Head Start/Early Head Start Director and other management staff to meet program objectives.
- Actively participates in relevant training and Agency planning sessions, and shares information.
- Attends Head Start/Early Head Start Supervisors’, Coordinators’ & Individual Meetings and shares appropriate information.
- Reviews, evaluates, and interprets health records and other vital health service data to address actual or potential health problems of children in the program, making interventions; referrals; and follow-up as necessary.
- Ensures that a comprehensive health screening is conducted for Head Start/Early Head Start children & pregnant women. Evaluates process and makes needed improvements.
- Engages in an ongoing assessment of Head Start/Early Head Start’s Health Services and analyzes trends in the field.
- Completes and submits Health year-end summaries to designated public school personnel to inform nurses of each child’s current level of functioning. Follows up to ensure information was received.
- Develops and maintains appropriate procedures for physical examinations of employees.
- Prepares written Plans of Service and procedures, required proposals, reports, correspondence, minutes, and surveys. Ensures record keeping and documentation of health content areas are accurate and meet requirements of annual plans.
- Coordinates and conducts Medication Administration Trainings for Head Start/Early Head Start staff in compliance with OCFS regulations.
- Responsible for inventory, maintenance, and ordering of health supplies.
- Assists in Health budget development and monitors expenses.
- Contributes articles to Family Enrichment Network's newsletters as requested.

Pay: $58,000.00 - $61,000.00 per year
