Along with all Forklift and Material Handling Equipment mechanical responsibilities, as outlined below, the Forklift Mechanic Lead is also responsible for working in direct coordination with the Regional Maintenance Director overseeing various maintenance shop tasks. Up to 25% of your day could include outlining and communicating job assignment priorities, condition reporting, ordering and receiving parts and tires, maintaining proper inventory levels, breakdown coordination, vendor repair coordination, processing repair orders, maintaining “Out of Service” and PM reporting, assisting personnel in the troubleshooting and completion of work, and regular direct communication with the Operations team.

The Shop Supervisor will also be expected to perform daily maintenance functions as needed throughout each day. These responsibilities include;

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain Universal equipment utilizing necessary tools, following Universal Maintenance Policy and Procedures
• Help diagnose mechanical problems both in the terminal and on the dock
• Perform routine maintenance tasks and adjustments on all types of equipment (i.e.: tractors, trailers, straight trucks and forklifts) according to company and manufactures schedules and guidelines.
• Inspect, maintain and perform work in, on or under parts of diesel trucks and trailers
• Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations as required
• Prompt, daily attendance at assigned work locations
• Keep shop safe and clean at all times
• Inspect equipment for safety, and prepare safety documentation

Qualifications

• Electric Forklift experience
• Prior experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, and trailer repairs
• Basic computer skills
• Supply own mechanic technician hand tools for Forklift, Tractor, and Trailer repairs
• Flexible in working various shifts, hours, days of the week
• Safely walk & stand for extended periods of time on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery (including working outdoors in inclement weather)
• Lift objects of various shapes, sizes and weights (up to 50 lbs. frequently and greater than 75 lbs. occasionally)
• Safely reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat & kneel as necessary to perform the mechanic job duties
• Basic welding skills desired (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG, and ARC)
