As part of the Experiential Learning team within Career Services, the Experiential Learning Specialist will develop, implement, and evaluate our signature program - Work U. This role will also expand experiential learning opportunities across campus to find new ways for students to participate in our career changing programs.

Career Services is a comprehensive and centralized department that supports current students and alumni with career development, experiential learning, and employer connections. We support students as they explore, gain experience, and articulate their story. Boise State University’s Strategic Plan – Blueprint for Success includes the goal of improving educational access and student success. This incorporates integrating career education and experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum and the student experience to improve career readiness and post-graduation outcomes. Example of Duties

60% of Time the Experiential Learning Specialist must:


  • Provides administrative support
  • Facilitates the delivery of required program services.
  • Maintain students files/records.
  • Analyzes data, generates and/or assists with, and disseminates periodic reports (monthly and semester).
  • May provide support to student groups.
  • May oversee the work of less experienced employees or students.
  • May independently manage specific program activities.
  • Planning and executing assigned projects and operations within the specified department
  • Other duties as assigned
35% of Time the Experiential Learning Specialist must:
  • Provide leadership for all curricular, programmatic, and operational components for Work U, such as: grading, classroom instruction, facilitation, offering timely feedback to students, and assessment
  • Lead student recruitment/marketing efforts to increase student engagement with Work U and other experiential learning offerings including all vetting and placing of students within Work U every semester
  • Oversight of timelines and operations for employers, students, and campus partners including, but not limited to: course scheduling, instructor recruitment/development, and any necessary adjunct faculty development
  • Track, intervene, and troubleshoot in order to support Work U students through regular coaching and mentoring opportunities as they arise
  • Support and train Work U employer mentors with regular workshops, orientations, and troubleshoot student/employer challenges as they arise
  • Work alongside the Career Services Employer Relations team to support existing and new Work U opportunities
  • Identify and build strong university partnerships in order to positively impact the breadth and depth of student opportunities for experiential learning throughout campus
  • Ensure compliance (community agreements, internship requirements) are in alignment between Boise State and respective employers
5% of Time the Experiential Learning Specialist must perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Masters degree and/or experience in project management/experiential education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to work independently and use reference manuals to develop proficiency with software or computer systems.
  • Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills in the preparation and presentation of results.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.
