The Role:
The Director of Race, Gender, Equity, and Accessibility will examine and recreate, implement, and manage the department’s strategic plans, trainings, policies, procedures, and practices in furtherance of an equitable and inclusive workplace. This critical leadership role will be a direct report to the Commissioner of DCF and will include, but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
Remote and flexible work schedules
Working with a staff who is dedicated to supporting children and families, including your own.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
Environmental Factors
Duties are carried out in a variety of settings including standard office, classroom, facilities of a resource provider, or even in an on-the-job setting. Considerable travel is involved for which private means of transportation must be available. Position duties may require performance outside of normal workdays and hours. Tight deadlines for organization and presentation of proposal and programs can occur. Strong and differing opinions may arise as to the nature, content, or method of delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in social justice, minority studies or related field and (1) year of experience in policy research and analysis, policy development, organizational development, legislative advisement, curriculum development, data analytics, law, or related field.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in social justice, minority studies or related field and (3) years of experience in policy research and analysis, policy development, organizational development, legislative advisement, curriculum development, data analytics, law, or related field.
OR
Five (5) years of experience in policy research and analysis, policy development, organizational development, legislative advisement, curriculum development, data analytics, law, or related field.

- Review, analyze, and update organizational policies, procedures, and practices to ensure they are promoting antiracism, inclusion, equity, and accessibility, as priorities.
- Advise and work with the DCF Commissioner and other members of the DCF Commissioner’s Office to develop, communicate, and promote legislative strategies and initiatives regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Serve as an Executive Sponsor of cross-department teams to develop/review trainings, policies, procedures as well as identify and address systemic inequities.
- Serve on a number of committees and workgroups to provide necessary DEI leadership.
- Actively advocate and promote antiracism as a key component of DCF's mission.
- A passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion and relevant experience in developing and implementing innovative DEI strategies and initiatives.
- Expertise in antiracism concepts, tools, and data.
- Expertise in organizational transformation and a trauma-informed approach to inclusion, equity, and accessibility.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent ability to effectively present complex and emotional information in a variety of settings.
- Ability to manage and analyze statistical data for DEI monitoring and assessment.
- Ability to listen, challenge, and find common ground.
- Strong people and change management skills.
