CLASSFICATION SUPERVISOR

ALBEMARLE-CHARLOTTESVILLE REGIONAL JAIL

The Classification Supervisor supervises and participates in the classification of newly booked inmates, including making appropriate housing assignments and referrals to internal and/or external agencies; to ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff and citizens through the proper enforcement of jail policies and procedures, and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under the general supervision of the Chief of Inmate Classification Supervisor tasks include, but are not limited to, the following areas of responsibilities:

 Supervises and participates in the daily operations and activities of the Classification Department.

 Develops, recommends and implements classification policies and procedures.

 Reviews the work of subordinates and supervises duties such as scheduling, instructing, planning and assigning.

 Provides case management as necessary.

 Works with Records Department and the Department of Corrections in arranging transfers.

 Remains on call for emergency cases

QUALIFICATIONS: Being able to effectively delegate tasks and influence others to perform the essential functions of the job such as by not limited to:

Making housing assignments

Maintaining and updating visitation lists

Participating as a member of review committees

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Must possess a valid state driver’s license; Must possess VCIN / NCIC certification; must possess Notary Public certification; CPR/First Aid certifications are desirable.

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with coursework in Criminal Justice or Social Science related field preferred but five years related work experience may serve in lieu of Education.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS: Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations. The job risks exposure to no known environmental hazards. The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, color perception. Responsible for guiding others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a moderate to highly fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.

SALARY: Starting salary $46,014 but could commensurate with experience
