DESCRIPTION
Position: Maintenance / Grounds Person
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of assigned task
Possess and apply public relations skills effectively
A certificate of good health
Iowa Pesticide application license required within 180 days of employment
Experience in Landscaping, Irrigation systems, all aspects of Lawn Care and maintenance and maintenance of lawn care equipment preferred
Maintenance and Grounds work experience related to large-scale physical plant operation with educational facility experience being the most preferred
Provide an acceptable criminal, child abuse and drivers license record check
Iowa Class B, Commercial driver's license with school bus, passenger and air brake endorsements required within 180 days of employment
Other related work experience may also qualify for consideration
Essential Function:
Ability to lift 70 pounds operates machinery, communicate, work flexible hours,and have regular attendance.
Oversee and assist assigned seasonal mowing staff to assure all work orders, performance responsibilities, regular and extra-curricular activities are completed as directed
Perform daily maintenance/grounds operations through-out entire district
Reports To:
Director of Operations and Maintenance / Grounds Coordinator
Consults With:
Lead Custodians, Principals, Activities Directors, Coaches, Teachers and Support Staff.
Position Goal:
To provide all students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn and participate in activities.
Performance Responsibilities:
Mowing of lawns, trimming of trees and shrubbery as needed.
To work where assigned and to follow all work orders and assignments as directed.
To complete custodial duties as assigned.
To comply with local and state laws and procedures on the application, storage and disposal of chemicals and waste.
Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and activity areas, neat and clean at all times.
Set up required equipment and work activities as assigned
Plow snow from drives, playgrounds and parking lots and sand or salt to prevent accidents and injuries as required
To perform district wide maintenance on all buildings, grounds and equipment as assigned
Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase and maintain inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, materials and supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
Twelve-month position. Wage schedules shall be subject to annual review and modification by the Glenwood Board of Education or through the collective bargaining process, where one exists.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Classified Staff Evaluation.
