General Role Description

This role is an integral part of the early team at Ayana Bio. We are looking for candidates who are driven to help shape Ayana Bio’s technology and excited to support our mission of democratizing standardized and safe complementary medicine for consumer health and wellness.

You will focus on developing analytical methods for analyzing cell lines that reproduce bioactives with targeted health functions. You will ensure the timely launch of Ayana Bio’s technology. This role requires a versatile skill set, including expertise in analytical chemistry, synthetic chemistry, technical project management, and communication. To thrive in this role, you should be a self-motivated problem solver who relishes the opportunity to create something new and important. This position is full-time and located in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

• Develop chromatography- and mass spectrometry-based qualitative and quantitative techniques to quantify plant cell and microbial metabolites
• Establish procedures to monitor upstream and downstream bioprocesses
• Procure and/or synthesize authentic standards
• Structural identification of unknown impurities and/or side products
• Standardize and validate analytical methods
• Create, execute, and manage workflows to support cell culture development and bioprocessing
• Support other areas within Ayana Bio, including process chemistry, engineering, intellectual property, strategy, regulatory, safety, product development, pilot scale manufacturing, and partnership development

Desired Experience and Capabilities
The successful applicant will have:

• A strong working knowledge of chromatography-based analytical techniques (e.g., have operated and maintained HPLC, LC-MS, or GC-MS)
• Experience working in a biochemistry and/or chemistry lab
• Background in natural product chemistry
• Experience synthesizing or procuring authentic standards
• Excellent written and verbal communication and an ability to work across organizational boundaries (e.g., keep lab notebooks up to-date)
• Excellent data management and organizational skills (i.e., can stay organized and on top of key details that support plant cell line development and analysis)
• An interest in learning new topics quickly
• The ability to prioritize and pivot in a fast-paced environment
• Startup experience (preferred)
