Job Description


This individual will work with the Hobart Filler Metals New Product Development teams to evaluate filler metal performance, drive differentiation in new products, and investigate welding system level performance. This person will also perform R&D related activities geared towards furthering our understanding of consumable performance as well as limited advanced customer application support.

  • Collaborate with product managers, formulators, & process engineers on new product development.
  • Drive objective criteria for evaluation of filler metals to be used for competitive evaluations, product design, and research efforts.
  • Participate in our Customer Backed Innovation process on voice of customer activity, technical market landscaping, and evaluation of value propositions.
  • Collaborate with other ITW Welding businesses such as Miller Electric, Tregaskiss, and Bernard to evaluate overall system welding performance.
  • Help the team in translating customer needs into actionable new product development targets.
  • Work closely with formulation and process engineering to drive application understanding and effects of product design variables.
  • Leverage tools like high-speed videography, high-speed data acquisition, microscopy, welding robotics, design of experiments, and others to perform in depth analysis on weldability, arc performance, mechanical properties, and system performance.
  • Assist application team on advance customer application requests.

Qualifications
  • Welding Engineering degree is required with 2+ years work experience preferred.
  • Must be a hands-on, team player, and self-starter. Possess the flexibility to effectively address a wide range of technical challenges.
  • Able to lead by influence rather than direct authority and function as part of a dynamic multi-disciplined technical and market-facing team
  • Experience with DOE, MATLAB, Minitab, Excel, or other analytical software
  • Experience operating in a metallurgical laboratory
  • Travel time for this position is up to 25%.
