Summary:
Provide supplies, analytical services, reports, and technical assistance to the contractors for the chemical or physical characterization of wastewater.

Chain Reaction (qPCR)

 The Contractor will provide sample collection and analysis

STAFFING REQUIREMENT:

Overview:
Work will include collecting and tracking wastewater samples for biological, chemical
and physical analyses that will be conducted by a processing laboratory. This will
include collecting the sample either from a pre-established point (auto-sampler) or
manual sampling, logging all information manually and/or through an app, replacing
sample containers as well as resetting autos-amplers as needed, and potentially
disposing of excess waste from the sampler. Routine maintenance of auto-samplers
may also be required. Employees are required to drive to and from sampling sites,
and this may include multiple sample site collections in a day. Work further includes
preparing sample bottles for field work, including: specialized cleaning, labeling and
organizing collected samples into coolers and other transport mechanisms.
Ensuring that samples are valid and representative, based upon programmatic
sampling protocols and federal, state, and local guidelines is a significant aspect of
the work.
Scope of work for staff:
 Pick up sample kits inclusive of freezer packs, shipping labels, bottles, and
shipping boxes as well as newly charged batteries from a central location.
o May need to self-store provided ice packs for temperature control.
 Collect samples from an autosampler located on-site. This is inclusive of
retrieving the sample, decanting the sample into a new bottle, resetting the
autosampler program for the next collection cycle, re-placing of the
autosampler after collection, and bringing the samples to the final collection
point or lab. Training will be provided on best collection practices and
autosampler usage.
 Most collections will occur at an autosampler located within a manhole. This
position will require opening of the manhole and lifting and replacement of the
sampler. At no point will the sampler be required to climb directly into a
manhole.
 Log key information including site location, time, autosampler data, among
others. Information will be logged manually and/or through an app.
 Make field judgments regarding potential issues with the sampling system;
enact first-line measures for maintenance of sample sites (repositioning
tubing, correcting autosampler locations, etc.). Report any issues on-site even
if they are able to be solved.
 Routine maintenance of the autosamplers will be required such as
exchanging charge batteries. Guidance will be provided on average use and
replacement rate.
 Package and deliver or mail samples to partner laboratory locations.
 Must log hours through preferred hour tracking app for time worked.
 Attend check-ins (remotely or in-person) with CIC Health as needed
Qualifications/Abilities:
 Preferred experience with wastewater collection at clean-out sites and
manholes through autosamplers or manual collection
 Ability to label and package samples.

 Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to:
kneeling, carrying, squatting and lifting up to 65 lbs from hard to reach angles.
 Learn and adhere to laboratory and field safety rules and practices, including
traffic safety proper PPE adherence: steel toed shoes, high visibility vest,
work gloves, disposable gloves, safety glasses, cones, flashlight, etc (PPE
provided by Staffing Agency)
 Learn and apply the established principles and methods used in water sample
collection, handling and transport
 Work independently while in-field, without close supervision, and maintain a
strong attention to detail in compiling and reporting back autosampler
data.
 Perform basic field analyses, through the use of various portable,
computerized analytical instruments
 Perform light manual tasks, if required by work assignment
 Learn and apply federal, state and local regulations
 Carry out written and oral instructions
 Make field judgments, especially as they concern water main sampling
 Keep records and complete various forms for sample documentation
 Maintain effective working relationships with associates and deal courteously
with the public
 Operate a personal computer and software
 Must have access to a vehicle and be legally licensed and certified, as
appropriate, for the vehicle being operated.
 Learn and apply established methods for handling precision laboratory
glassware and chemicals
