St. Ann’s Home & School, in Methuen, MA, is a leader in special education and residential programming, offering private day programs, child and adolescent residential services, along with a broad range of outpatient services.

We are currently seeking a Title I reading specialist. The Title I reading specialist should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and certified by MA as a Teacher of Reading.

The Title I reading specialist is responsible for:

Reviewing test scores and teacher referral forms to determine eligibility for reading services.
Grouping and scheduling students according to needs, performance levels, informal assessment and other available student achievement information.
Providing instruction to individual or small groups of students using phonics-based, language-based or specially designed reading programs such as Wilson Reading or Orton-Gillingham, depending on the needs of the students.
Completing necessary paperwork including case conferences, class lists, schedules, individual student files, assist with IEP goal development, etc.
Keeping lines of communication open with classroom teachers, administration, parents and personnel.
Caseloads of up to 30 students K-8.
The Title I reading specialist should be able to sit for long periods of time, write extensively, talk for long periods of time, and be able to communicate with other agency personnel, LEA representatives, families and the children. The Title I reading specialist should be able to react quickly, lift and carry up to 20 pounds, climb stairs and be able to physically restrain youth in an emergency to ensure everyone’s safety is maintained. Staff are trained in current best practice techniques to safely respond to occasional aggressive, self-injurious or unsafe behaviors.
