Systems Engineer II – AN/BYG-1 Installations

MIKEL is currently seeking an experienced Systems Engineer I for AN/BYG-1 Combat Systems Installations support at NUWCDIVNPT. Systems Engineer I role will work directly with the AN/BYG-1 Installations team performing installations onboard submarines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support AN/BYG-1 Installation team in any tasking required, including:
  • Performing installations onboard submarines:
    • Conducting In-Brief with crew
    • Executing Pre-Installation Testing
    • Conducting platform Installation
    • Executing Post-Installation Testing (SOVT) including Shipboard Test Procedures (STPs)
    • Conducting Out-Brief and On-the-Job Training with crew
    • Problem resolution and troubleshooting onboard platforms
    • Providing detailed status reports
  • While not conducting installations:
    • Responding to current Fleet issues
    • Supporting the coordination and scheduling of installations
    • Providing reach back support for other team members on installations
    • Validation and investigation of Fleet issues in the test bays
    • Preparing documentation and technical knowledge for next installation
    • Becoming familiar with new systems that are not yet installed on platforms
  • Completing any other tasks requested by team leads to support the completion of Installation products, such as assisting in the maintaining and organization of technical information, supporting documentation review, and obtaining access to all databases required for completion of tasks
• Up to 50% travel is required for this position. It is estimated the individual will support around one trip per month for a duration of 1-2 weeks at a time. Typical travel locations include Groton, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Kings Bay, Bangor, San Diego, Pearl Harbor, and Guam. Ample notice is given for trips, but dates may shift slightly as platform schedules solidify.
• While on travel on an installation, overtime is expected, if required to meet the platform’s schedule. This may include 10-12 hour workdays, and possible weekends.
• While not on an installation, a hybrid work model of telework and on-site at NUWC is allowable.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Systems Engineer or Technician
• Knowledge of the Combat System
• Familiarity with conducting oneself onboard a submarine
• Represent NUWC technically and professionally on the deckplates
• Ability to correspond with and brief to the Fleet, of various levels
• Technical writing of daily installation reports
• Proper handling of classified material
• Strong attention to detail and prompt responsiveness

Department of Defense Secret security clearance or higher is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
