Description:

  • Hold functional knowledge of all welding equipment
  • Have full knowledge of weld electrodes and wire and machine settings
  • Maintain an acceptable standard in quality and quantity, specifically with use of oxygen/acetylene gas torch for cutting or pre-heat
  • The ability to read/interpret blueprints is required
  • Sub Arc, Tig, and/or GMAW experience is preferred but not required
  • Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.
  • Pipewelds in all positions
  • Constructs, maintains and modifies piping systems and process equipment related to Ship Repair or similar industrial equipment by welding of pipe, flanges and various fittings using applicable welding techniques and processes required to produces welds that meet applicable codes.
  • Disassembles/assembles and/or repair of shipboard systems.
  • Reads blueprints to identify locations of various pipe systems.
  • Successfully completes sustained work at various heights.
  • Perform repair, prep, grinding and re-weld procedures on pipe to meet proper welding codes.
  • Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various cleanup and housekeeping activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Other exposures may be exposed to vibrations, smoke, acids, degreasing cleaners, fumes dust, solvents, oil, grease and confined spaces. Safety equipment required. Must wear welding helmet and hard hat, clothing with no holes, eye protection, and respirator and hearing protection. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders and lift up to 40 pounds. The individual may be required to work more than 10-hour shifts and weekend work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While in work areas the person will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard.
Requirements: Knowedge Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work with little supervision.
  • Must be skilled in dual shield stick welding.
  • Must be skilled with structural steel
  • Must be skilled with wire feed welding
  • Must be able to read blue prints and have basic math skills

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED certificate is required. Minimum Four (4) year of increasingly responsible experience in pipe and/or structural welding
