The Senior Corporate Counsel is a key member of the Global Legal Department located in Raleigh, NC focused on global company operations and strategy. This high-profile position collaborates with Global Merz Aesthetics colleagues in Marketing, Medical Affairs, R&D, Regulatory and Compliance.
The ideal candidate will have background in supporting FDA cleared medical device and/or approved pharmaceutical products throughout the product life cycle (such as reviewing product claims, marketing campaigns, branding). The Senior Corporate Counsel must “think strategically” and be able to counsel in-house business clients and manage risk to maximize the value and effectiveness of the legal function. The right candidate will be a self-starter with a solution-oriented approach, comfortable with managing global projects and with making decisions in a fast-paced business environment.
Together with the Assistant General Counsel, the Senior Corporate Counsel works with four Regional General Counsels to support consistent and effective delivery of legal services throughout the Global Aesthetics business. Additional duties include reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of agreements; advising on regulatory matters; and navigating complex business issues for Global company-wide arrangements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Global Business - Collaborate with Assistant General Counsel and Regional General Counsels on effective delivery of legal services globally to support Global marketing strategies and priorities.
General Legal Counsel and Advice - Provide legal counsel to Global Aesthetic functions including Global Marketing, Regulatory and Safety, Medical Affairs and R&D on day-to-day legal matters.
Advise on Marketing Campaigns - Work with Global Marketing teams to implement and mitigate risk in the design and roll out of global drug and device marketing campaigns, including social media and celebrity campaigns.
Business Agreements - Review and negotiate third party and intercompany agreements.
Advise Global Communications - Counsel Global Communications team on specific communications and tactics, including social media in support of key initiatives of Global Medical Affairs and Marketing
Medical Affairs - Counsel Global Medical Affairs on scientific exchange including meetings, product information requests and publications.
Risk Mitigation - Counsel on overall legal risk mitigation in collaboration with Global and Regional Compliance.
Legal Department Efficiencies & CQI - Work with Assistant General Counsel to identify opportunities for continuously improving the effectiveness of the global legal function including, for example 1) client training; 2) client self-services; 3) systems/technology upgrades; 4) management reports; and 5) consistent global legal best practices.
REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from an ABA accredited law school; licensed to practice law in at least one state in good standing;
- Excellent academic credentials
- Law journal experience a plus
- Minimum of five years overall legal experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department settings
- Product or device marketing/promotion review experience
- Experience in developing policies and procedures
- Experience with clinical trial agreements a plus
- Ability to think creatively in a heavily regulated environment and handle multiple complex matters
- Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise solutions and problem-solving strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Legal Department staff.
- Ability to interface and work effectively with international colleagues in legal and business functions
- Highest ethical standards and respect of confidentiality for company matters.
- Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work cooperatively in an organization and with management.

Experience
Required- 5 year(s): Minimum of five years overall legal experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department settings
Education
Required- Doctor of Juristic Science or better
