The PLSS Oversight Engineer will:
- Work as part of a team that is developing the next-generation spacesuit for the Artemis crews on the lunar surface
- Be a team player, building relationships with customers, industry partners, and subject matter experts
- Learn about all aspects, and requirements, of the spacesuit and the vehicle
- Monitor industry partners to ensure sound designs are developed for ISS and lunar applications. Review designs and recognizes gaps or technical risks. Assess vendor implementations against NASA design and construction standards
- Collect data, then compile findings to determine whether requirements were met, and communicate results effectively to management
- Support program milestones reviews.
- Support site visits, and witness key verification tests
- Understand the suit/vehicle interface requirements and support integrated testing
- Sponsor design concept discussions between NASA and industry partners
- Perform other duties as required
- Work Environment-Generally, an office environment can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
Essential Functions:
- Physical Requirements-Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90the % of time). May require lifting carrying up to 25 lbs. (5%of time).
- Equipment and Machines - Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
- Attendance- Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside the regular schedule and adjust the schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
- Other Essential Functions - Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dressing must be
- appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

- Requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering in the field or a related area.
- Must be a self-motivated team player with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with customers and management at all levels effectively.
- Experience with electro-mechanical components, including valves, flowmeters, linear actuators, heat exchangers, and life-support systems sensors.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
- Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and environmental testing.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- General knowledge of the xEMU spacesuit
- Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The implementation and enforcement of Executive Order 14043 is currently suspended under an injunction pending further litigation.
