Reports to:
CTO, VP or Director, Quality

Function: Oversight of multi-plant fulfillment of the PTCA Quality Program, including immediate management of plant-located Quality Managers/Leaders. Works to standardize Quality systems and processes across multiple plants, including supporting documentation to appropriate standards and corporate policy and guidelines. Works with corporate & plant staffs and support functions to monitor, control and reduce the overall defectives, rework and claims (COPQ). Guides and mentors plant-located Quality staff. Represents the company and its customer-driven, quality focused approach both internally, and externally with customers, suppliers, and external auditors. Oversees plant Quality Managers in the implementation and monitoring of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process and support of the Oracle ERP system, as it relates to Quality requirements and data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Responsibilities: The Senior Manager’s role is to support and guide an expectation that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. The Senior Manager’s duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTCA Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job being performed.

The Senior Manager’s primary responsibility is to guide the Quality staff across multiple plants to fulfill requirements of the PTCA Quality Program. This will involve direction, mentoring and training of the Quality staff; review of plant quality (COPQ) and staff performance; reviewing and auditing adherence to the company quality manual, company level procedures and plant or department work instructions; and standardization of Quality processes. The Senior Manager assists corporate & plant in quality planning and implementation of quality system related procedures. The Senior Manager will also assist the plant quality staff in implementation and use of the Oracle ERP system by guiding and standardizing processes.

Assists and guides Continual Improvement through:

  • Analysis of COPQ causes and coordination of appropriate corrective measures;
  • Monitoring of customer claims and complaints and coordination of responses and corrective actions;
  • Participation in internal audits at the plant and with other PTCA facilities as scheduled;
  • Participation in plant review meetings and identification of corrective actions;
  • Follow-up on audit findings and assigned actions from management reviews.

The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. Duties and Responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTCA Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job or function being performed.

Technical Resource:

  • Answers technical and personnel questions raised by subordinates and directs quality training for the plant as required.
  • Reviews technical problems and procedures of plants and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
  • Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.
  • Assists in implementation and support of Oracle ERP system, as it relates to Quality requirements, records, and data.
  • Maintains affiliations with appropriate technical and/or professional organizations or associations. Including but not limited to ASQ, AIAG.
  • Trains plant personnel on Quality System, including Quality Policy, Quality Manual, and Quality Procedures
  • Hosts outside auditors, inspectors, suppliers, and customers with respect to quality, specifications, audits, and customer surveillance visits.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent with 7 - 10 years of experience in quality.

Number of Employees Reporting Directly/Indirectly: (0 to 10, depending on region)

Positions Reporting Directly: Quality Manager; Quality Leader; Quality Engineer; Quality Technician (varies by plant).

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, and/or public groups.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply basic algebraic concepts to practical situations.

Reasoning and Problem Solving Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and specifications in written or diagram form, including drawings, and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate and able to work with standard programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.), and be able to learn and use the company’s ERP software, as applicable.

Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, and specifications.

Familiarity with and understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems. ISO/IATF Internal Auditor, or Lead Auditor experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport for business travel for customer visits, attending required meetings or seminars, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however employee is expected to spend significant timer in the plant’s manufacturing areas where noise levels may be high. Employee is required to abide by plant safety rules, and PPE requirements.
