ORGANIZATION: The East Bay SPCA (EBSPCA) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit committed to the welfare of dogs and cats in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. The East Bay SPCA is one of the nation’s oldest humane organizations, in operation since 1874, and receives no funding from any national organizations. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Senior Manager of Major Gifts reports to the Vice President of Development & Communications.
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Vice President of Development & Communications, the Senior Manager of Major Gifts supports all East Bay SPCA fundraising projects and activities, with particular emphasis on donor relations, securing public and private grant funding and managing donor events. The Senior Manager is responsible for supporting and developing activities to attract new donors and to retain and upgrade existing donors. This position is essential to ensuring the optimization of cultivation, recognition and stewardship activities, donor communications and special programs for donors and other key audiences. This position is full-time exempt.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as central liaison between donors and the East Bay SPCA. Provide excellent customer service by accommodating donors’ special needs and requests as appropriate.
- Develop, implement and oversee all Donor Relations programs and activities, including gift/membership levels, benefits and recognition.
- Manage all Donor Relations activities including personal gift acknowledgements, special donor tours, activities and other donor and prospect engagement programs. Manage and update donor recognition signage, including permanent recognition for naming opportunities.
- Manage and develop major donor cultivation and stewardship communications, activities and special events throughout the year including thank you notes from board members, private House Parties, promotion of Legacy Gift opportunities.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings with donors and the Vice President of Development & Communications and/or the President & CEO for personal engagement, cultivation and stewardship.
- Identify, submit and manage grant applications to corporations, foundations and other agencies for event sponsorships, in-kind donations and other East Bay SPCA funding needs. Track all grant deadlines, activity and manage and submit reports to grantors as required.
- Work closely with Marketing team to ensure strategic timing, messaging and brand compliance of all Development communications.
- Work closely with Database Administrator to ensure timely, accurate production of donor and prospect lists and reports. Accurately record and track all donor and prospect activity in donor database (Raiser’s Edge). Generate and manage weekly donor/prospect activity reports and oversee follow-up actions.
- Conduct donor and prospect research for major gift qualification and produce confidential donor profiles and reports for staff, Board and volunteer use.
- Serve as an ambassador for the East Bay SPCA at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of five years of professional fundraising experience required, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
- Five-plus years of experience in donor cultivation and solicitation. Proven track record of building donor relationships, successful moves management and closing gifts in the four and five-figure range. Six-figure gift experience is a plus.
- Outstanding stewardship and relationship management skills with meticulous follow-through and excellent presentation skills while exercising creativity. Demonstrated donor recognition strategies.
- Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- A proven track record of maintaining effective relationships with donors and determining the optimal scenario for successful gift solicitation.
- Experience working with volunteer fundraisers to successfully close gifts among their networks.
- Excellent communication skills required, both verbally and in writing, with strong customer service orientation. Must have ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of constituents.
- Accuracy and speed using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Must have advanced knowledge and high comfort level generating reports, budgets and performing data entry, list management, and mail merge.
- CRM database management experience desired. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software a plus.
- Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with a high degree of decorum and professionalism at all times.
- Ability to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent reading, writing, research and editing skills with impeccable attention to detail.
- Strong work ethic with initiative to creatively solve problems, improve efficiencies and exceed expectations.
- Must have transportation and availability to work some nights, early mornings, weekends as needed.
- Experience or familiarity with animal welfare preferred.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
COMPENSATION:
The target range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000.
