The Senior Assessment Researcher is a key partner in supporting the University’s efforts to understand and improve student learning; analyze the results of assessment projects and prepare reports of the findings; provide consulting support to academic departments regarding assessment, survey and research design, and data analysis. This position reports to the Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Effectiveness and Assessment.
Responsibilities
  • Research assessment-related topics and prepare summaries of findings for the Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Effectiveness and Assessment.
  • Analyze collected assessment data using a variety of statistical models and data visualization techniques, and prepare both written and oral reports of findings for a variety of audiences.
  • Develop educational resources and other materials for the assessment website, and maintain and update website content and design as needed.
  • Develop and lead workshops for faculty and staff on assessment topics grounded in research and related to best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Co-manage University assessment data collection processes with the Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Effectiveness and Assessment, including collection of direct evidence of undergraduate learning and undergraduate-wide surveys.
  • Conduct focus groups for program review, including data analysis and reporting to academic programs.
  • Provide consulting support for faculty on the assessment process, including program review, and annual Educational Effectiveness Inventory (EEI) of student learning.
  • Support the Academic Program and Review Committee (APRC), working alongside the Chair of APRC, to facilitate a streamlined process of reviewing new program proposals and program review.
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate researchers and interns in assessment and data analysis.
  • Support the reaccreditation efforts of the University, and of programs with discipline-specific accreditation.
  • Research compliance requirements related to state authorization and federal regulations and policies and support the process of securing and renewing authorizations
  • Represent LMU within the academic community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Requisite Qualifications
  • Typically a Master’s degree, a doctorate is preferred. Strong candidates will have a background in the social sciences, education, policy research, or related fields. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • Minimum five years professional work experience in a college or university setting along with experience in data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting assessment and program evaluation, quantitative and qualitative research methods, research design and statistical analysis, and visualizing and presenting data.
  • Experience with the academic enterprise within a university and knowledge of key issues and concepts in higher education.
  • Experience working with department chairs, program faculty, and supporting committees
  • Familiarity with accreditation requirements, federal and state regulations that impact student learning
  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing research reports, executive summaries, slides and handouts that present technical information in an easily understood fashion.
  • Some experience supervising student workers
  • Effective organizational skills; ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals and diverse groups; demonstrated success working collaboratively.
  • Established computer competency including various software packages and applications.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and varied projects and initiatives.
