Posting Information
Employees at WCU may be required to submit to campus based COVID 19 vaccination or testing requirements.
The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.
The research technician will help with the laboratory and field analysis of the microplastics in water and sediments. Specific tasks include: (1) the collection of water and/or sediments from local water bodies for microplastics analysis, (2) the laboratory separation of microplastics from sediments using oil and/or zinc chloride methods, (3) the characterization of microplastic shape, size, density, and composition using microscopic and fluorescent methods, and (4) the manipulations of the data using Excel and other software programs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
General understanding of Microsoft Excel and laboratory practices.
Minimum Qualifications
B.A. or B.S. in geology, hydrology, ecology or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with microplastics analysis and microscopes.
