Research Intern Job at Meharry Medical College
The Laboratory for Integrative Structural Biochemistry (LISB) in the Department of Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, Neuroscience and Pharmacology is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate student for a internship in the fields of structural biology and machine learning/artificial intelligence. The LISB is an interdisciplinary group that uses structural biology to understand fundamental mechanisms of human health. The primary focus of the research internship will be to apply computational methods to understand protein structure and function. Based on qualifications, this position can be virtual.
Daily Operations
- Plan, coordinate and conduct computational biological experiments (molecular dockings, simulations) to understand protein dynamics; use structural biology software to determine protein structure
- Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams; keep abreast of field by facilitating lab journal clubs and attending related seminars
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of the internship assignment pursuing an undergraduate
- Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required
- Knowledge of Python required and network science related packages preferred;
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills is required;
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills are preferred;
- Must be a self-starter works independently while contributing to the team goals;
- Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities is desired
