Rescue Boat Team Member
On-Call Position
$15.32/Hour

The Rescue Boat Crew Member will assist in conducting search and rescue operations on Lake Michigan. He/she will also assist with any other collateral duties assigned by the Emergency Management Director, Deputy Director, Rescue Boat Team Leader or Rescue Boat Pilot in charge.

The Rescue Boat Crew Member will assist with conducting search and rescue activities on Lake Michigan or inland waters as assigned. He/she will be called upon to respond to various emergency situations that may be classified as manmade, technological or natural disasters. The Crew Member will help maintain the county’s rescue boat and the other specialized equipment necessary to carry out the assigned duties and responsibilities, and any other duties assigned by the Director, Deputy Director, Rescue Boat Team Leader or Pilot.

Valid WI driver’s license and successful completion of a background investigation.
Meet all education and experience requirements and possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
Successful completion of the 12 month probationary period.
Regulation of conduct on and off-duty under the rules and regulations of the Sheriff’s Department.
Required to attend all departmental training programs as assigned.
Required to function in a drug-free workplace.

Education Requirements*: (Include certificates, licenses and/or registrations required.).
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Within the first year of employment, the Responder shall complete the FEMA courses including:
ICS-100 Basic Incident Command
ICS-200 Incident Command System – Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
IS-700a NIMS (National Incident Management System) – An Introduction

Minimum of awareness training in Hazmat.
CPR training with AED endorsement and training in Blood Borne Pathogens awareness.
Completion of a USCG or State of WI DNR safe boating course.
Successful completion of the required portions for the Rescue Boat Crew, which includes:
(a) Basic Knowledge Tasks
(b) Crew Member Skill Tasks

Experience Requirements: *
Although not required, significant boating and/or navigation experience on the Great Lakes is helpful for this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: *
Ability to understand and follow directions, in both routine and emergency situations.
Possess a willingness to learn.
Basic swimming skills.
