REPORTS TO Port Orchard Youth Programs Manager

Summary: Pursuing, engaging, and identifying homeless and at-risk youth, ages 13-25, in the streets, schools, and juvenile justice system. The purpose of this position is to establish rapport and build relationships with the intention of connecting them to programs within The Coffee Oasis and other community programs to end and prevent homelessness. The person in this position would also be an educational advocate for at-risk youth or youth experiencing homelessness with the goal of keeping them connected to the school system and helping them to be successful in their educational goals.

Primary Contacts: Homeless and At-Risk Youth, Police, Probation Officers, School Administration (Superintendents, Principals, Homeless Liaisons, School Counselors, Volunteers, Parents, family members, any and all organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Continually grow in effectiveness to connect with and impact youth
  • Ensure that youth (ages 13-25) in the Port Orchard school district knows about the Oasis Youth Programs
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with school administration, probation officers, parents, and other community members in order to effectively support the youth in every system that adds value to their lives
  • Train, coordinate, facilitate, and encourage outreach volunteers
  • Create new ways to connect with youth in the streets, schools, and other known local “hang-outs”
  • Commit to a growing understanding of Street Culture
  • Keep daily records for weekly/monthly/quarterly reports of youth contacted (HMIS)
  • Report all supplies, equipment, and resources needed for outreach to your direct supervisor
  • Research to understand the community and culture of youth who are impacted by homelessness in your region, Including Tribes and educational programs
  • Maintain case files consistently with accuracy and integrity
  • Send Bremerton Youth Programs Manager a weekly report

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experienced and demonstrated ability working with youth and communicating to youth culture
  • Able to pass a background check to volunteer in the public schools
  • Professionalism to connect with schools and other public and community organizations
  • In full agreement with the Coffee Oasis mission, Core Values, and Jesus Statement
  • Higher education (preferred)
