Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Operator is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of all plant generating equipment while maintaining a constant awareness of dam safety. The Operator must work in compliance with all applicable codes, standards, safety and environmental regulations. Specific responsibilities include the following:

• Qualify in and maintain qualifications for all facility-designated operating watch- standing positions.
• Maintaining security at facilities, as assigned.
• Being able to observe and record facility parameters.
• Identifying any abnormal plant condition and taking the appropriate corrective
  actions when possible.
• Starting, stopping, and controlling all physical plant assets utilizing both local and remote systems.
• Safeguarding the plant by complying with and enforcing all facility safety policies.
• Maintaining and enforcing all local, state and federal environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinating and recording all facility related events as appropriate.
• Operating the plant in the most efficient manner possible without degrading plant equipment.
• Complying with company standards, practices and policies.
• Assisting in developing and improving operational policies and procedures.
• Performing maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Working a weekly schedule and working overtime, as necessary, and performing tasks that require physical exertion.
• Handle on call responsibilities. Live within a 30-minute travel distance to support on call responses.
• Being proficient in the use of personal computers, specifically, in the use of word
  processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
• Maintaining plant equipment as qualified and capable.
• Performing other collateral duties as assigned.
• Be flexible to support other nearby operations.
• Be capable to support maintenance functions and activities at this and other sites.

Organizational Relationships

The Operator will report directly to the Northern New York Regional Manager. The Operator will follow proper dam safety procedures per the Owners Dam Safety Program.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of 1 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, experience in hydro, steam and/or gas turbine power plant operations is preferred.
• Experience in the use of personal computers.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to understand complex issues as they relate to plant operations.
• Ability to work extended hours, when required.
• Must qualify for and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Ability and eagerness to learn and work well within a team environment.
• Ability to perform operational tasks. Some of these operational tasks will include:
  • The ability to climb ladders and to work at heights.
  • The ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards.
  • The ability to perform chemical sampling procedures.
  • The ability to "handle" quick changing situations under stress.
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
• Ability to climb a ladder.
• Ability to work around water.
• Ability to perform Mechanic maintenance tasks.
