This position can be remote/virtual, based anywhere in the United States or Europe. This position is designed to specifically support Eastern time zones for the US (standard hours of operations 8:30am to 5:00pm EST). Role may require up to 15% travel to existing UCB sites.
We are looking for a Patient Engagement Lead who is innovative, collaborative and proactive to join us in our Early Patient Value Mission.
About the role
In this role you will advance patient-focused drug development by providing Patient Engagement leadership, collaborating and integrating the patient community early, supporting key early pipeline programs including Gene therapies in the Early Patient Value Mission (EPVM). This is a global role with strong US focus.
Who you’ll work with
In this role you will work with internal teams including Early Solutions, Development Solutions, Neurology and Immunology Patient Value Units, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research, Global Regulatory Affairs, Global Medical Affairs, Access, Pricing and External Engagement, Real World Evidence Team, and Communications. Externally, you will work with Patient Advocacy groups/patient communities/advocates/Influencers, Global Patient Education Coalitions, Regulatory bodies, policy makers/government officials, business executives, trade associations, think tanks, and journalists.
What you’ll do
- Lead, develop and execute global patient advocacy strategies and action plans across the Early R&D teams, focusing majority of time in driving PE across the complex Gene Therapy pipeline.
- Collaborate closely with relevant internal stakeholders across discovery, preclinical, clinical, and commercial to support strategies across the early drug pipeline.
- Lead and facilitate implementation of the global patient advocacy tactical plan, routinely sharing insights from the patient community and advocacy groups to shape programs, research and activities to inform decision making.
- Develop and drive Patient/Caregiver Advisory Boards/focus groups aligned to the asset development programmes ensuring the patient perspective is understood and embedded in the development plans.
- Influence development strategies and programs by integrating insights on patient needs into medicines development strategy with connectivity to the commercial strategy
- Lead and advance patient-focused drug development building a framework for aggregating Patient Experience Data (PED) that aligns regulatory and access expectations, patient needs, and sponsor responsibilities.
- Lead on the Patient Engagement strategy to drive greater representation of underserved communities in our clinical studies ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion is reflected and supported.
- Continue to expand network of advocates to ensure holistic understanding and engagement of the relevant patient communities.
- Actively integrate patient community into long term partnerships ensuring patient input is included in a clear study roadmap, measuring and capturing their impact and value providing an evidence-based measure of patients' engagement.
- Foster strong partnership with Legal, Regulatory, Compliance and other supporting functions on all engagement activities.
- Establish, build and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships early with key Patient Advocacy groups together with Patient Advocates relevant to the early asset pipeline, that aim at creating significant value for patients.
- Provide strategic insight on the pulse of the specific patient populations to missions, and in key internal cross functional strategies.
- Represent UCB at international medical congresses with patient group/advocate involvement, international patient group/advocate meetings and within international patient associations and patient-related events to raise awareness of UCB.
- Through partnerships with regional and country-level Patient Value Units, ensure that regional and country-level patient group engagement and advocacy plans are designed and implemented in alignment with the ES Mission PE strategies.
- Contribute to major UCB/Patient Group partnership programs and initiatives and position UCB as a thought leader in high-profile external patient-focused and/or patient group-driven fora and partnerships.
- With the Global Patient Engagement team, Global Medical Affairs, contribute to the development of the PE&A function through active participation in centrally led projects of interest for EPVM.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- Bachelors degree or above and 7+ years of patient advocacy experience.
- Broad knowledge of the biopharma industry.
- Working knowledge of Patient focused drug development.
- Robust knowledge of current compliance, legal, regulatory, and other issues that impact the biopharmaceutical industry and its protocol for patient engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain compliant, authentic, and impactful relationships with the advocacy community.
- Strong strategic leadership attributes with an ability to consult with key business stakeholders including Regulators and all levels of management.
- Ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations.
- Ability to work well under pressure and enjoys a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment.
Expected Salary range commensurate to Experience: $154,800-$180,600
