Hiring Salary: $16.48 Hourly


Under supervision, performs para-professional library work assisting with planning, organizing, implementing and promoting special programs, events and exhibits presented by the Library. Work also involves assisting library patrons and maintaining library materials and records.

Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in all contacts with library patrons.

Reports to Director of Library Services or designated Library Coordinator.

Example of Duties

  • Assists with planning, organizing, implementing, and promoting special programs, events and exhibits; as assigned, serves as lead for special programs, events and exhibits. May serve as lead for specific program area.
  • Performs tasks at the circulation desks and/or bookmobile; checks library materials in and out; registers patrons for library card; and maintains records and tabulations. Collects fines for overdue and lost materials, and other miscellaneous fees (copier, fax machine, printer).
  • Answers phone, opens and closes the library on a rotating shift, and provides technical assistance to patrons using library computers, printers, copiers, and other public equipment.
  • Performs reference tasks such as instructing readers in the use of reference tools, including computers, and answering reference questions and requests on historical, cultural or genealogical topics.
  • Collects books and other materials from book depository, inspects returned books and other materials for damage.
  • Prepares carts for shelving and regularly shelves books and reads shelves.
  • Attends seminars and workshops relevant to library services.
  • Trains and oversees volunteers as directed.
  • May operate County vehicle to retrieve and distribute inter-office mail, deposit monies, and transport library materials and supplies between County libraries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma/GED supplemented by secondary coursework in child development, children/adult literature. Associate Degree preferred.

Two (2) years of progressive experience in public library work.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Special Requirements

General knowledge of library routine and procedures. Experience and proficiency in the use of personal computers and commonly used Microsoft Office software products to include Outlook, Word, and Excel; specialized programs and the internet.
