Overnight Child Care Counselor Part Time - Residential Job at McAuley Nazareth Home For Boys
Essential Accountabilities:
- Build a positive and supportive relationship with each youth under their supervision
- Monitor the academic needs, school placement, and progress of children in consultation with the child's teacher; work with teachers for after-school educational activities and homework. Know and follow all IEP goals, and Gateway treatment plans
- Make regular entries in students' records (restraint reports, body charts, incident reports, service notes, daily logs) describing the youth's progress and significant events in accordance with licensing regulations by the Department of Early Education and Care
- Arrange daily routines for programs for youth rising and retiring, meals, school attendance, clothing, arrange or provide recreational or special activities; responsible for the physical care and maintenance of the home occupied by the group
- Participate and advocate for youth in weekly Team Supervision, case conferences and team meetings
- Assist youth in developing appropriate daily living skills, recreational activities and where appropriate teach and reinforce PAYA learning
- Work cooperatively with other child care counselors so that together they present a clear, stable and consistent trauma-informed relationship with the youth and his family. Provide a secure, interesting setting, representing acceptance, understanding and love with a positive sense of security
- Keep the Supervisor informed regarding group activities, the progress of individual youth, the particular problems they might have, especially those which involve other staff members, and all significant events within the group
- Report to the Supervisor in the event of any serious injury, runaway, or serious problem
- Assist in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and overall appearance of the residence
- Participate in all mandated training and other training opportunities for both required training hours (minimum of 24 hours annually) and ongoing professional development
- Drive youth to appointments (i.e. medical, dental, recreational activities) when necessary
- Respect, maintain and honor confidentiality
- Help to develop the spiritual and cultural growth of the youth according to designated culture and religious affiliation
- Assist the youth in management of their money received as earnings, allowance, and gifts
- Inform and collaborate with the Clinician regarding youth's response to home/family contacts
- Responsible for knowing and practicing all of Nazareth's policies and procedures
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Must maintain a satisfactory annual competency and performance evaluation Certifications:
- Trained in MAP, First Aid, C.P.R., C.P.I. Non-violent Crisis Intervention, and all other required trainings
- Maintain active certification in First Aid, CPR, CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention and attend all other required trainings
