DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Assists the professional and technical nursing staff by performing any delegated duties and, specialized procedures, and such as patient transport and positioning, handling specimens.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Under the direction of the Licensed Nurse demonstrates the ability to perform in a sterile environment.
- Appropriately utilizes the Universal Protocol as directed.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment for patient and staff in OR suites.
- Performs delegated duties such as clip prep, assisting with sterile preps and disposal of waste, refuse and linen.
- Assists with proper positioning of patients when directed to do so.
- Safety transports patients with concern for patient comfort and safety.
- Handles specimens competently and in a timely manner anticipating the needs of the surgical team according to the daily schedule.
- Competently performs unit specific procedures.
- Incorporates Healthy workforce in daily practice.
- Taking call is required for this position.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Entry level position
- Technical skills as required by department.
- CPR certified.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
- The work environment may be physically confining.
- Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
- Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
