Please note, 6 days will be 12 hour shifts and 1 day will be an 8 hour shift. Please see below, the schedules available for this position.
The hours of the 12 hour days are 1800 - 0630, and the hours of the 8 hour day is 2200 - 0630. Please note the days are marked accordingly to which day will be a 12 hour day vs the 8 hour day.

JOB DETAILS:
- Starting Hourly Pay: $38.13
- Multiple pay increases over your first 6.5 years of service, with an end salary of $54.47 per hour.

The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for those veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and special care for veterans with Memory Care needs.
The Home opened in 1888 to care for veterans of the Civil War and has been in continuous operation since. We pride ourselves in providing superior care to Ohio's veterans.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervises direct care nursing staff for whole house (e.g., handles disciplinary issues, provides counseling, assigns & monitors work, trains & orients new employees, develops & provides in-service training); assists in planning & directing all nursing care services; establishes & implements nursing care programs; serves as nursing liaison with other units to ensure services are coordinated; directs record keeping & reporting procedures; coordinates nursing services with other resident services; conducts &/or attends health care meetings; provides leadership for quality assurance functions & requisitions medical supplies or equipment; communicates with resident families, physicians & specialists; investigates care/abuse complaints & also addresses any other concerns/complaints.
- Coordinates scheduling, assessments, planning, evaluation & delivery of all nursing with appropriate healthcare providers; develops, schedules, conducts & monitors in-service training programs; attends meetings (e.g., Utilization Review & Interdisciplinary Team Meetings); attends workshops & seminars; writes & reviews reports; coordinates staffing schedules, (e.g., conducts daily pick-a-post, manages overtime, mandates overtime to meet staffing requirements).
- Provides direct professional nursing care to patients; administers emergency care & first aid; conducts nursing rounds & assesses patients & administers medications during absence of nursing staff. All other duties as assigned.

Requires current licensure as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code; 24 mos. exp. as registered nurse; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in counseling; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing; 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in public relations; 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in employee training & development; 6 courses or 18 mos. exp. in management.
- Or 6 mos. exp. as Nurse 2, 65513.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
Knowledge of skilled registered nursing procedures; state & federal regulations, policies & procedures related to nursing; public relations; employee training & development; purchasing*; health care services & program management; counseling, interviewing; public relations; supervisory principles/techniques*; labor relations. Skill in operation of medical equipment (e.g., stethoscope, otoscope, blood pressure cuff, EKG machine). Ability to deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables; write meaningful, concise & accurate reports; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; demonstrate physical fitness.
