JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the General Manager of Crane Maintenance & Repair the Manager of Crane Maintenance is responsible for organizing and managing all of Georgia Ports Authority's crane maintenance departments. JOB DUTIES:
  • Performs managerial duties such as long-range planning, equipment and employee scheduling, and equipment repairs/replacement.
  • Consults with the operations division to determine their needs ensure maintenance support and coordinates equipment repairs. Coordinates emergency repairs with other divisions.
  • Sets priorities and standardizes procedures for crane maintenance departments.
  • Manages annual capital and operating budgets for the crane maintenance department. Submits budget recommendations to General Manager for Crane Maintenance and Repair.
  • Oversees the maintenance of all maintenance files and records (PM records, crane certifications, inspection reports, environmental compliance, project costs, etc.). Prepares monthly maintenance planning, cost (material cost and overtime), equipment utilization, and downtime reports.
  • Reviews work orders and equipment downtime logs to identify recurring equipment failures. Makes appropriate recommendations for correction of equipment faults, potential hazards, and deterioration of equipment.
  • Monitors preventive maintenance program. Plans long-range preventive and routine maintenance and establishes preventive maintenance goals for crane maintenance. Monitors departmental adherence and performs quality audits to verify compliance with a preventive maintenance program.
  • Monitors spare parts inventory levels, makes necessary adjustments to support equipment needs and recommends appropriate spare part needs for new equipment.
  • Reviews all purchases to ensure that the most effective and cost-efficient components are ordered for the equipment. Coordinates with purchasing and vendors all warranty repairs and rebuilding of equipment/components. Ensures compliance with purchasing policies.
  • Motivates, advises, evaluates, disciplines, and trains subordinates. Establishes internal policies and procedures for all crane maintenance departments. Helps administer the Job Task Analysis program for the promotion of employees.
  • Assists the General Manager of Crane Maintenance and Repair in the development and recommendation of equipment and component replacement.
  • Maintains knowledge of the current state of the art in Port related crane equipment such as container cranes, gantry cranes, mobile cranes, etc.
  • Instruct employees on mobile equipment theories and practices requiring the highest skill and knowledge.
  • Supervises employee work activities to ensure a safe and productive operation.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to supervise employees and perform administrative duties in an efficient manner. Ability and willingness to climb and work at high elevations required. Ability to operate heavy equipment, including container cranes, gantry cranes, and mobile cranes desired. Understanding of OSHA and other codes, rules, and regulations applicable to Port related crane equipment. Ability to read mechanical, structural, and electrical blueprints. Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project programs desired. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as members of the shipping industry and the general public. Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills required.

Experience

  • Formal training or extensive on-the-job training in areas related to erection, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of Port related crane equipment is Preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience Preferred
Education

  • Required Four year college degree in engineering, logistics or related field
Licenses & Certifications

  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license
