The Jacksnville Public Library is actively seeking one (1) Cataloging Librarian Manager.

The Cataloging Librarian Manager reports to the Senior Manager of Library Collections and is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of the cataloging and digitization units and performing extensive specialized library work. Manages the day-to-day operations of assigned units through planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating the work of assigned staff. The position requires specialized knowledge of cataloging and metadata principles and standards.
Examples of Work
Primary responsibilities may include any of the following:
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates the day-to-day operation of assigned unit.
- Supports the overall mission of the Library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience.
- Manages the department’s workflow and projects.
- Determines priorities for accomplishing cataloging and digitization goals.
- Monitors staff and vendor work for compliance with standards and policies.
- Imports bibliographic and authority records to cataloging database and evaluates the records for quality and adherence to national and local standards.
- Establishes cataloging and digitization department practices and procedures.
- Analyzes quality of catalog database and determines solutions to update and/or enhance the bibliographic and holding records.
- Develops, recommends, and implements library policies and procedures.
- Schedules, assigns, monitors, reviews, trains, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
- Monitors and reviews budget appropriations and expenditures for assigned work activity.
- Participates in the interview process for the selection of new staff.
- Keeps abreast of emerging standards, tools, and developments in resource description and access and identity management such as BIBFRAME and Linked Data as well as related changing technology.
- Keeps abreast of digitization preservation and metadata standards as well as digital repository platforms.
- Compiles data, prepares reports, and/or oral presentations.
- Operates standard office and library equipment such as personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other related software, peripheral and electronic devices, cash registers, copiers, fax machines, microfilm and microfiche equipment, and calculators.
- Assists with maintaining appearance standards by reporting facilities issues and picking up litter on library grounds.
- Serves on library committees that plan and administer activities.
- Communicates clear direction, manages for results, and leads organizational change.
- Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing, and motivating employees.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.
- Performs related work as required.
Open Requirements/Supplemental Information
- A Masters’ Degree from an accredited institution in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program with
- At least four years of progressively responsible professional library work.
- Within that four years must have one of the following:
- Three years of experience in cataloging and/or digitization.
- Three years of experience using library cataloging resource materials, formats, and standards such as MARC, LC National Authority Files, NACO, RDA, AACR2R, LCSH, LCC, Dublin Core.
- Two years of experience with software for editing data in bulk, such as MarcEdit, OpenRefine, pyMARC, etc.
Supervisory experience is preferred.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION :
- Depending on assignment, a valid driver's license may be required and must be maintained during employment in this class.
- Depending on assignment, must qualify prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain during employment a City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification.
