Position Summary

The Learning Designer, Technical Operations reports to the Director, Technical Operations Training. The ideal candidate is to identify knowledge gaps within Tech Ops Training programs and maintain and design a curriculum course that enhances the technical skills of aviation maintenance technicians, material supply agents, and staff. Additionally, they will support the Part 147 certifying programs. The Learning Designer would also acquire or develop eLearning (computer-based) materials and assist the Tech Ops Instructor to deliver effective lessons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops instructor led and computer-based training course elements
  • Analyzes course content and determines best media-rich components to enhance student learning and to enhance content delivery
  • Investigates, evaluates, and implements new course design and delivery methods with defined learning objectives.
  • Completes multimedia design projects, working in cooperation with other instructional designers and subject matter experts.
  • Propose revisions to Director, Technical Operations Training, and to managers and instructors on existing courses and materials to redesign for learner’s needs
  • Delivers educational content in an effective manner which meets the educational needs of diverse learners
  • Reports course development scheduling, progress, and completion to the Director, Technical Operations Training
  • Supports curriculum development and ensures course content is compliant with various regulatory agencies and documented training programs
  • Acts as project manager for assigned projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a learning and development function designing and developing for all delivery mechanisms
  • Knowledge of Instructional Design, adult learning theory, and eLearning design practices
  • Knowledge of PowerPoint and other multimedia/eLearning authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline 2 or similar
  • Committed team player with strong customer service orientation requiring interaction within airports and aircraft repair facilities
  • Ability to analyze the needs of work processes and to design solutions through training, which result in improved performance
  • Ability to manage and communicate one’s design projects with minimal supervision

**Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT - regulation, 49 CFR part 40) and all applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will render the applicant ineligible for employment with Hawaiian Airlines and any employment offer will be withdrawn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in adult education, educational technology, instructional design or another related field
  • Experience designing courses within a regulated industry
  • Knowledge and experience with video and audio learning tools
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Aviation or Airline technical experience
  • Prior corporate training (or equivalent) and general project management experience
  • Prior experience in facilitating or delivery of classroom and virtual training environments to support “Training the Trainers” concept
