Experiential Learning Coordinator
Billings Middle School, an independent school in the Pinehurst area of Seattle, seeks a Experiential Learning Coordinator to join our faculty. This is a full time position, beginning July 1, 2023
Primary responsibilities include the planning, supervision, and curricular development of the Expeditionary Education program, summer program, and athletic program.
Responsibilities
Expeditionary Program
- Ensure that the mission of Billings Middle School is integrated with intention into all elements of expeditionary education.
- Through the Program Team, support all facets of expeditionary learning: field trips, excursions, and outdoor trips
- Work with the Program Team to define the curricular connections and educational outcomes for each trip and effectively communicate those goals across the Billings Community
- Build a relevant outdoor education progression with awareness towards physical and emotional safety.
- Provide WFA/CPR training to necessary staff.
- Collaborate with grade level teams and advisory teams for the effective planning of all outdoor trips
- Appropriately staff all outdoor education programs
- Maintain and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines, risk management procedures and protocols, and outdoor education best practices
- Collaborate with Logistics Coordinator to manage route planning, gear preparation, maintenance, procurement, and organization, and food management
- Plan and manage the logistics of all ExpEd Overnight Trips and Snowshoe (Winterim) Day Trips.
- Maintain all records and files. Coordinate and organize all the administrative aspects of program management, including registrations, licensing, budget planning, supply orders, and required reports in collaboration with the Director of Finance.
- Lead the school’s continuous improvement in managing and mitigating risk related to off-campus programs.
- Chair the ExpEd Committee and supervise the Climbing Wall Manager.
- Teach Go Outside Class for one grade and collaborate with other teachers who teachGo Outside to create a cohesive course between grades.
- Plan and coordinate all school stewardship day.
- Daily Advisory time with students and occasional check-ins with advisees
- Attend weekly faculty meeting, advisory meetings and all school events
Athletic Program
- Attend monthly Cascade League Athletic meetings. Coordinate with other schools to schedule games in all sports.
- Stay apprised of requirements for scheduling with DiscNW or other Ultimate Frisbee leagues.Register all Billings Ultimate teams for the annual Spring Reign tournament.
- Field scheduling for all sporting events and practices.
- Coordinate all tournaments and post-season games.
- Secure transportation to and from sporting events
- Collaborate with Director of Finance to hire coaches when needed
- Perform new coach onboarding, orientation, and training
- Approve coaches timesheets. Ensure timely submission of coach timesheets.
- Offer constructive criticism to fellow coaches.
- Hold an annual sports information meeting for parents and students in August
- Provide timely communication with parents and students regarding all practices, games, and scheduling changes, and updates regarding transportation.
- Confirm the availability of sports equipment and inspect equipment for safety.
- Assure that all sports related health and safety protocols are being met
- Coordinate the purchase, reconditioning and storage of sports equipment.
- Plan and track all sports expense within annual budget.
- Ensuring adequate transportation for students and coachesCoordinating substitutes or additional drivers to drive students when needed
Work with Administrators to ensure bus safety training and driving background checks are performed.
Summer Program
- Plan, advertise, implement and manage summer programs.
- Hire, train, and supervise summer teachers, vendors, and/or volunteers
- Oversee registration, budget, and communication of summer program
- Serve as liaison between parents and summer program teachers/vendors by answering questions and sending communication
- Be available on-campus to troubleshoot issues/receive communication during the program
- Reinforce all policies, procedures, and regulations set by the school, and modify, when necessary, to meet the needs of the programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field
- Experience working with Google Suite
- First Aid and CPR certifications
- Diverse outdoor experience
- Valid Washington State's Driver's License
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Local travel and overnight stays
Preferred
- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR)
- Experience working in independent schools
- Current Washington State Teaching Certification
