The Lead Housekeeper, under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor, is responsible for maintaining prescribed standards of cleanliness for assigned areas using germicidal solutions and following prescribed procedures and work schedules. Provides direction to assigned employees, including training and orientating new personnel.
Principle Accountabilities:
1. Cleans areas and has working knowledge of various cleaning chemicals and solutions, prepares cleaning solutions, maintains and distributes required supplies in assigned areas. Performs major floor refinishing or carpet restoration using prescribed methods.
2. Inspects work during activity and at completion. Makes recommendations to supervisor regarding effectiveness and efficiency of department practices, procedures and working systems. Issues work groups’ equipment (including pagers/keys) and inspects its cleanliness when equipment is returned and stored properly per established department and safety guidelines.
3. Operates and maintains equipment as necessary for cleaning assigned area and maintaining a safe environment. Performs routine inspections of electrical equipment used by housekeepers and either makes on-the-spot corrections or locks out/tags out dangerous equipment according to policy/procedures.
4. Plans, coordinates and supervises the movement of equipment and furniture within the facility (as requested) with attention to detail and in a timely manner per established guidelines.
5. Assigns tasks for designated work group as delegated by supervisor and oversees the completion of the work group’s assignments on a daily basis. Follows up on complaints regarding poor service in a timely manner.
6. Initiates disciplinary action for infractions of work rules, policy or procedure up to an including recommendation to Supervisor for sending employee off shift per established department and hospital guidelines. Provides verbal input into evaluations of staff to Supervisor and/or Director.
7. Attends and participates in department meetings and committees as directed. Works on special projects and committees at the request of their immediate supervisor. Maintains professional growth and development through education programs, trade journals, etc.
8. Meets safety and cleanliness guidelines defined by Housekeeping guidelines.
9. Assumes accountability for professional growth by functioning as a preceptor for patient care staff and an educational resource for other healthcare professionals, maintaining a current professional knowledge base and developing leadership behaviors and skills as a housekeeper in accordance with established policies and practice guidelines.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred but not required.
Experience:
Institutional housekeeping preferred.
