Job Summary

Assists in the planning, promotion, development and implementation of various programs, camps, activities and special events, and/or operation of Parks and Recreation facilities.

Essential Functions

1. As assigned, assists in planning, organizing and leading various recreational programs, camps, activities, special events and projects associated with Lake Parks.

2. Coordinates with City departments, community organizations, volunteers and school districts regarding facility availability and scheduling.

3. Provides quality customer service at all times; greets public, answers telephone, provides information and registers participants.

4. Abides by City safety and health codes and ordinances.

5. Drives City vehicles as needed; may be required to transport program materials and people and for various errands.

6. May operate cash register; may use cleaning equipment such as brooms, mops and brushes and cleaning supplies.

7. Completes various reports and submits them to the appropriate supervisor.

8. Ensures the safety of all visitors and participants in programs and facilities; ensures safety protocols are being adhered to.

9. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate to the position.

10. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

11. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

Lake Parks Assistant I assigned to Dove Creek Day Camp:

1. Supervises daily operations and implementations of seasonal day camp to ensure needs and interests are met in a safe and quality manner.

2. Oversees implementation of recreational programs and activities for school age children.

3. Gives direction to staff to accomplish daily camp activities.

Lake Parks Assistant I assigned to Meadowmere Park:

1. Operates the Meadowmere Park Gatehouse collecting entry fees to the park and scheduling camping reservations.

2. Primary customer service agent, providing park information and directing guests to different program or use areas within the park.

3. Prepares and submits reports to administration.

Required Skills

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use a calculator and do basic math functions.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather, including high heat and humidity, for multiple hours with few breaks.
  • Ability to traverse uneven, unpaved surfaces.
  • Ability to carry 10-15 lbs.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with parents and youth.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work various times, including some nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be comfortable working in Windows based computer system and will be required to demonstrate efficient computer processing skills within six weeks of hire.

Lake Parks Assistant I assigned to Dove Creek Day Camp:

  • Must have physical ability to load, move and/or set up tables, chairs and various equipment needed for camp.
  • Ability to lead/coordinate staff and school age children.
  • Must have or obtain American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR, First Aid and AED certification before the first week of being placed on the work schedule.

Lake Parks Assistant I assigned to Meadowmere Park:

  • Strong organizational skills preferred.
  • Ability to count currency required.
  • Must demonstrate professional conduct when interacting with park guests.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age 16.

Must have physical ability to accomplish job tasks and work outdoors as required.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Positions with assignments that require handling money will be required to pass a credit check.

Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 2).

This job entails moderate physical labor, which requires strength and agility.
