Serco has an exciting new opportunity as a Systems Engineer that will actively participate in all phases of our software development projects: requirements definition, analysis, design, coding, documentation, testing, implementation, and training. Good communications skills are essential as this position will work closely with client representatives to identify and prototype new embedded applications and extensions of current designs. Ability to learn new skills required to support specialized systems. In this role you will:
- Embedded software / Systems Engineer that will actively participate in all phases of our software development projects: Perform requirements definition, analysis, design, coding, documentation, testing, implementation, and training.
- Develop embedded software for microcontrollers in C++ and communicate to devices using RS-232/RS-422/Ethernet/Wireless interfaces
- Develop Graphical User Interfaces in Microsoft Visual Studio using XAML, WPF, .NET for Applications
- Develop updates to encryption algorithms and implementation
- Develop Software Documentation including: Design Documents, Requirements Specifications, User’s Guides, Technical Manuals, Build Procedures
- Design and Perform Unit/Subsystem/System level test cases to verify software implementation
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings to discuss software progress and resolve issues
- Perform in code reviews and documentation reviews
- Implement new software requirements determined by stakeholder input
To be successful in this roll, you will have:
- Development using C/C++/C# Languages
- Experience in developing Applications for Windows/Linux environments.
- Experience using RS-232/422, TCP/IP, or Wireless Radio for networking devices
- Packet Messaging Composition/Decomposition
- Experience with GUI development using Microsoft Visual Studio, WPF, XAML, Eclipse
- Requires a Bachelor's or Masters degree or in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related area and at least 1-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Must be familiar with embedded development and concepts using both hardware and software
- Candidates must be US Citizen and must be able to pass background checks for security clearance, Work to be performed at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey and partial telework
- Ability to Travel up to 10%
Additional desired experience and skills:
- Experience with Networking Communications (Client/Server/Sockets/Multithreading)
- Experience with Multithreading
- Experience with Secure Communications using SSL/TLS or Encryption
- Experience with Agile or Software Lifecycle Design concepts
- Understanding of Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS) concepts: semaphores, task creation/scheduling, interprocess communication, message queues, memory system management
- Operating Systems and Virtualization (VxWorks, Linux, Windows, Virtualbox, VMWare)
- Experience with Source Control / Code branch Management using Git, Azure DevOps, or Team Foundation Server
