JOB SUMMARY

Works closely with state and federal agencies to ensure an individual’s constitutional rights have been appropriately met during admission to a correctional facility until their time of release. Judicial Processing Specialist provides a critical service within the Criminal Justice System. This position performs a variety of routine and complex clerical duties to maintain comprehensive up-to-date criminal records, accurately interpret court documents to carry out the court’s orders which impact the detainee’s civil liberties, and safeguard against the unlawful detention of detained individuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of related experience working in a professional office setting (government office, clinic or physician office, court or legal office, etc.).

Due to the nature of this positon, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with Couty Human Resources policy requirements.

Must be 18 years of age. Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Successful completion of Judicial Processing Specialist (JPS) formal training within (6) months of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Effectively work with arresting officers, detainees, court personnel, state and federal agencies.
  • Generate official legal records as well as update those records as new information is received.
  • Review Law Enforcement probable cause affidavits for accurate content and submit complete affidavits to the appropriate judge for determination in accordance with state law. .
  • Process court orders in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner; certifying they meet all legal requirements while honoring confidentiality.
  • Determine appropriate court and jurisdiction for all charges, warrants, commitments, detainers, holds and jail release agreements.
  • Set and process bails, bonds, and fines.
  • Process the timely release of detainees from custody, notifying all applicable departments, agencies, and organizations which are unique to each detainee.
  • Conduct regular audits of all official legal records ensuring the accurate status of all cases.
  • Process requests for releasing detainees to court appearances, transfers between jails and prisons, court-ordered appointments and transfer of custody between state and federal entities.
  • Safeguard against any unlawful detentions by ensuring detainee’s records are accurate and up to date..
  • Conduct initial and on- assessments for detainees utilizing objective jail classification principles.
  • Respond to detainee requests, grievances and appeals.
