Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The IS Clinical Applications Credentialed Trainer, under the supervision of the IS Training Manager, conducts EMR end-user training with guidance from the IS Training Specialists. This includes the responsibility to plan, teach, monitor, and evaluate the EMR end-users while working with the rest of the training staff to ensure a successful education program. Other training tasks include participating in program development, building lesson plans, and creating training materials as well as objective competencies. The IS Clinical Applications Credentialed Trainer may also have to travel to training sites, complete classroom setup and tear down, and troubleshoot computer issues. The IS Clinical Applications Credentialed Trainer also provides at-the-elbow support as necessary. This position is key to having successful new employee orientations throughout the organization with the overall goal of increasing efficiency, the quality of care, and patient safety.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for in-person 1:1 training of new providers
  • Secondary responsibility for training clinical EMR end-users both in and out of a classroom environment
  • Provides tutoring and one-on-one support to users struggling with EMR efficiencies
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of the Epic training curriculum
  • Acts as a liaison between the IS Solutions Department and the end users
  • Ensures readiness of classroom and course materials
  • Ensures classroom attendance requirements are met
  • Assists with the continuation of quality healthcare services during upgrades
  • Coordinates Eskenazi Health’s overall needs and direction to the Principle Trainers, and the Training Manager


Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in EMR training is mandatory
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; in lieu of degree must have 3 years of directly related experience in EMR training and support.
  • History of adult education and successful clinical instruction preferred
  • IT experience preferred
  • Successful completion of Epic credentialing process within assigned time

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High level of communication skills required to teach others to use EMR applications
  • Past success with other projects and/or key initiatives
  • Ability to be flexible to changing work schedule based on priority of project timelines and deadlines
  • Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions to determine the extent of problems and to decide on an appropriate course of action
