General Job Description

The Housing Navigator will focus on services in rural areas of Kern County, and work specifically with low-income tenants from BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) communities at risk of or subject to eviction. The communities to be served include, but are not limited to: Arvin, Buttonwillow, California City, Kernville, Lamont, Mojave, Rosamond, Ridgecrest/Inyokern, Lake Isabella/Kernville, Keene/Tehachapi, Frazier Park, Lebec, and Pine Mountain Club.

The Housing Navigator will use a screening tool to determine client’s needs, goals, and eligibility for non- legal services and resources. The Navigator must be competent and compassionate with assisting low-income tenants with apartment search, rental applications, employment applications, utility assistance applications, healthcare related needs, moving school records or assistance in maintaining enrollment in the current school, accessing public benefits, and other needs as identified. This position will provide proactive follow-through to ensure utilization of services. This position will maintain consistent communication channels, both verbal and written, between several parties (e.g., tenant, referral source, collaborating agencies, partner agencies, others).

Must be able to interact with a wide arrange of the client population in a kind and appropriate manner.

Specific Qualifications:

• Must be familiar with the rural areas of Kern County, and willing to travel to those locations
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or a Behavioral Science and two (2) experience in provision of Social Work services.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
