Position Overview

Adaptive Biotechnologies is seeking an experienced marketing leader to join our Diagnostics Leadership team as Head of Marketing for our flagship commercial diagnostic product, the clonoSEQ Assay. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Diagnostics, this individual will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of innovative, high-impact brand marketing and communications strategies for clonoSEQ. Through these strategies and supporting tactics, the individual will advance Adaptive's effort to engage and educate target audiences including opinion leaders (OLs), community healthcare providers, patients, pathologists, and key organized customers, such as practice and hospital networks, national community oncology organizations and state societies on the importance of minimal residual disease (MRD) testing in lymphoid cancers and the differentiated value proposition of clonoSEQ.

As Head of Marketing, this hands-on leader will build and refine strategic imperatives for the brand across disease states, translate those imperatives into an actionable plan and then lead and maintain accountability for the implementation of this plan. The individual in this role will have direct responsibility for managing an existing team of 7 marketing and marketing operations professionals and will collaborate closely with the Head of clonoSEQ Sales, Sr. Medical Director and other key leadership positions for the brand. Prior success leading teams in a high-urgency, patient-centric environment and coaching individual team members to optimal performance is a requirement of this position.

This key strategic member of the Diagnostics Team will actively shape the direction for ongoing clinical diagnostic product marketing and commercialization efforts. The individual in this role must adeptly facilitate effective field and cross-functional collaboration by developing strong relationships throughout the organization and by expertly and objectively representing the voice of the customer. S/he will engage regularly with HCPs and other target audiences in key disease areas, deepening relationships and soliciting input to inform promotional strategy and tactical priorities.

Scope of this role will include (but is not limited to) development of annual brand plans; creation of market development strategy and product positioning for new indications; branded message development and optimization; strategic direction for new HCP and patient campaign development; multi-channel marketing strategy including digital and personal promotions; oversight of field-facing collateral design, approval and roll-out; peer-to-peer programs and other promotional education initiatives; opinion leader (OL) engagement strategy; patient advocacy engagement strategy; conference strategy, planning and implementation; and management of marketing communications agencies.

The individual in this role must bring substantial knowledge of available healthcare provider and patient marketing channels and must be prepared to demonstrate the impact of the team's investments by defining and implementing meaningful metrics. This individual will be expected to develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of MRD-related educational needs / gaps and to determine how these needs differ for clinicians at various points along the MRD testing adoption continuum, developing and deploying tactics to address them. The individual must have deep knowledge of and experience marketing to key customer segments in oncology including academic institutions, community practice networks and integrated delivery networks. The individual must also possess and apply practical knowledge of relevant compliance requirements and considerations. The individual will develop future years' marketing budgets and headcount plans and have responsibility for managing and optimizing resource allocation throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Owns the development of marketing blueprint and execution of the product strategy for clonoSEQ, ensuring alignment with the overall brand and company strategy
  • Functions as a results-oriented leader in marketing strategy and tactical execution, leading and mentoring the clonoSEQ marketing team
  • Maintains responsibility for developing multichannel marketing strategies and implementing tactical plans to achieve them
  • Ensures global alignment of the clonoSEQ brand strategy and develops market-specific communications approaches
  • Works cross-functionally to align strategies and tactics with Sales, Customer Operations, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Sales Operations, Legal, Regulatory and Product Development
  • Collaborate with commercial and medical field personnel to develop tools and programs to support educational initiatives in target academic institutions and community practices
  • Establishes and advances relationships with external constituencies including physician thought leaders, key customers and patient advocacy organizations
  • Manages marketing communications vendors to support strategically aligned, high-quality and cost-effective implementation of tactics and development of marketing collateral
  • Provides direction on market analytics and intelligence, including input on forecasts, market and competitor analysis
  • Creates marketing metrics that can track, measure and analyze performance
  • Delivers brand P & L targets

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)

Required

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10-20 years of experience and a demonstrated track record of success in clinical healthcare product marketing (including experience with regulated products)
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of people management and team leadership experience
  • Experience in diagnostics, medical device, biotech or pharmaceutical industries required
  • Oncology / hematology experience and diagnostics industry experience strongly preferred
  • Sales experience desirable
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skillset with ability to lead a team through tactical execution
  • Functional experience driving marketing strategy and planning, including branded, unbranded and disease awareness promotion
  • Refined interpersonal skills, maturity and good judgment; capable of communicating with and facilitating decisions involving a diverse group of individuals
  • Effective listener and quick learner; able to integrate seamlessly into an existing high-functioning team
  • Strong team player - highly effective in partnering cross-functionally and influencing without authority
  • Ability to clarify and overcome ambiguity; flexibility to adapt to change
  • Extensive experience managing and optimizing output from external vendors
  • Proficient in the use of MS PowerPoint and Excel
  • Excited about a growth-stage company environment and driven to make a difference

Compensation

Salary Range: $202,300 - $303,500

Other compensation elements include:

  • equity grant
  • bonus eligible
