Personnel new to the District are limited to a maximum 10th step placement based on previous experience: $93.01.

Position Summary Information

Scope of Assignment
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, and in collaboration with the
Health Services Department, provide mental health services and mental health treatment, rapidly
address crisis care situations and threat assessments, and plan/implement programs and services
to promote mental health wellness and suicide prevention for Columbia students.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology,
guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development (Note: A
license as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor is an alternative qualification for this
discipline, pursuant to Title 5 Section 53410.1) OR possess a California Community College
Counselor credential appropriate to the subject OR the equivalent.
AND
1. California State Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or
Licensed Clinical Psychologist;
2. Minimum three years’ post licensure experience required.
3. Must maintain current, valid license to practice psychotherapy in the state of California.

  • Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and
ethnic back-grounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems
and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.
  • Three years of experience as a licensed Mental Health Counselor in an institution of
higher education, providing direct mental health to students/ or in a K-12 educational
setting/or clinic setting addressing a diverse range of mental health issues.
  • Current Training in risk and violence assessment and suicide prevention.
  • Experience with responding to crisis care situations in a college setting.
  • Personal qualifications such as: effective interpersonal communication skills,
participation in community affairs, ability to conduct effective public presentations.

Example of Duties
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Schedule, implement and deliver mental health clinical services and mental health
treatment to students in support of wellness, academic success and retention—in person,
on zoom and by phone.
  • Confer with Columbia College Alert Team (CCAT) as needed.
  • Provide support and consultation for faculty/staff regarding mental health and wellness
with individual students.
  • Provide Outreach: Design, implement and evaluate community health events, workshops,
classroom teaching and other student health programs that promote wellness and enhance
students’ abilities to benefit from college.
  • Respond to crisis events impacting the learning environment and provide crisis
intervention to students as needed.
  • Research and provide community referral services to students in need of mental health
resources beyond those offered on campus.
  • Provide professional development and serve as a consultant on mental health matters that
may influence student behavior, motivation, safety, and learning process issues including
mental illness, suicide, domestic violence, stalking, and threats toward others.
  • Provide a safe and confidential environment conducive to effective interactions.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with local mental health agencies; maintain database
of community resources.

BACKGROUND CHECK: A background investigation of new employees is required, including reference checks and a state criminal history report. Employment will not begin until the history check has been cleared by Human Resources. The cost for the criminal history report will be the responsibility of the successful candidate.

TRANSCRIPTS: At the time an offer of assignment is made, proper salary placement is contingent upon receipt of OFFICIAL (sealed) transcripts. Instructors with advanced degrees and coursework shall be placed on the appropriate salary column and step up to step 10. Initial salary placement will be at the first column/step until official transcripts have been submitted to Human Resources and placement processed. Note: there is a separate salary range for summer school.
