JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Elementary Social Studies Curriculum Specialist

JOB GOAL: Support teachers across 7 different elementary schools by developing and improving instructional practices, student-facing materials, and teacher curriculum guides with the goal to improve student achievement and learning. The Curriculum Specialist will provide guidance, support, and professional development to staff in their classroom practices in elementary social studies instruction, curriculum and assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• DESE License Required; Elementary licensure preferred.
• At least five years of successful classroom teaching experience

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• 
  Deep knowledge of current state social studies curriculum and frameworks
• Content and pedagogical knowledge of elementary social studies content
• Knowledge and understanding of MTSS and UDL
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers
• Experience providing professional development to elementary teachers
• Experience communicating with parents/guardians about what children learn
• Experience with standards-based assessment and effective use of student data
• Ability to analyze data and a familiarity with spreadsheets
• Administer, score and interpret diagnostic instruments
• Ability to discuss aggregated and disaggregated student learning data with teachers
• Ability to co-plan and co-teach lessons with classroom teachers consistent with district-wide initiatives

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepares unit and lesson plans related to state standards that reflect best practices in universal design for learning.
• Internalize district and department vision, mission, and values in order to create aligned learning opportunities for all adults and students
• Work with classroom teachers to improve teaching and learning.
• Assist in the development of the district/school professional development programs, including delivering and facilitating content-specific workshops and programs as well as job-embedded activities.
• Engage teachers in the analysis of data from a variety of sources to inform and improve curriculum and instruction.
• work collaboratively and participate in district-wide discussions with the K-12 Directors, Elementary Coach(es), and other curriculum leaders.
• Participate in the review and revision of the district’s social studies curriculum.
• Assist in ordering and distributing content-specific materials for teacher and student use.
• Other related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Arlington Education Association Bargaining Unit Position, School Year (183 days) plus up to 10 additional days if necessary at per diem rate.

REPORTS TO: Curriculum Director.

SALARY: Per the Arlington Education Association Contract

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Arlington Education Association Contract. Evaluations will be completed by the K-12 Director.
